My holset hx35 blew up, now what

Well the turbo is off but the new hx35 hotside does not want to separate, if it isnt one thing it is another ha! I was banging on it very carefully, but no go. So I will have to wait till monday to get access to a puller.
Heat, a large sledge, and some patience will get you by without a puller. I've seen some pretty galled / rusted housings and I've never had one I couldn't remove with a hammer and my own two hands.

Heat the exhaust housing around where it connects to the center housing a little, and back the mount bolts out as far as they can without removing them (some will hit against the oil supply and drain flanges). With the bolts and hold-downs still in place you can swing away without having to worry about the housing dropping off on your toes.

Drive the housing off by hitting evenly on opposite sides of the housing. If the housing starts to come off on an angle you risk damaging the turbine blades or bending the shaft if it wedges the wheel in the housing.

Yeah the only one I can not get off is right next to the oil supply flang. It is just tricky having it on the vise or holding it on the ground while hitting it with percision.

I heated it a bit and wacked around it but got nervous about hurting the fins. Haha if I can get my 10 year old rusted axels out I should be able to get this sucker off. Thanks for the tips.

i tried to do this with my hx35 and ended up doing nothing but bending one of the long bolts... =(

^ did you do it evenly? When I did it I switched sides and slowly turned until I could see a step appear between the housing and center section. Try heat and a little liquid wrench at the crack, then try again.

New holset is on and is boosting. Spool seems a bit faster than before, Building a good 5psi by just cruising and reving to a little over 3k daily driving it. I have not noticed any smoke at start up or at WOT, so so far so good, but only time will tell. I am running VR1 valvoline 20w-50 with a .078 restrictor in the SS line off the OFH.
