my cel came on tonight and started cutting out?!?!?!

i started my car and the cel was on and when it came under boost started cutting out. when you turn the car off and restart it the cel goes off and when it cuts out comes back on ?!?!?! it doesnt cut out every time and even if you baby it and keep it out of boost the light will eventually come on. im just running 10 lb of boost off the waste gate so its not fuel cut.

the question is how do i find out what the light is. im geussing a sensor of some sort.

Get the code(s) pulled. Not sure how to do it on a 1G, I would assume there is some info here on the forums you can search for.

there arent many things that will set the CEL, sounds like a CAS problem.

Auto store can't do it on 1gs. Invest on a Haynes or Chiltons manual and buy or borrow an ohmeter. The manual has a wealth of information.

Also could be a knock sensor going bad and pulling timing, or it could be an o2 sensor as mine only came on under boost situations.

auto stores only pull obd2 cars codes. at least where i live. i asked my friend that knows alot about these motors about a CAS because the tach goes a lil scetchy at 3500 rpm's. but it feels kinda like a boost leak but a boost leak wont make a cel.

it took me by suprise because it was running perfect 20 minutes before i started it and caught the cel

thanks for the help guys i figured it out. my throttle positioning sensors clip broke and it backed off the sensor and i had about 4 boost leaks on top of that its amazing how boost laks develop over time. there where no boost leaks a couple of months ago. thanks very much for the link you ppl are very helpful
