My car SPINS the rear tires!!!!!

I am a 1g TSi AWD. Help, I got stuck in the mud and only the back tires were spinning. I have been having problems that felt like the clutch was spinning, replaced the clutch with a 6 puck, only to find out that it does the same thing. feels like its underpowered, even though I am(since the turbo is on its way, a t3/t4) I am only driveing it without one because it was in the shop, and since it still runs, I wanted to put some miles on the new rebuild(100 miles ago). I have had this thing a year and have only driven it like 15 short times(cause sumtin else always goes wrong) :cry:

Please help cause I want to have this problem diagnosed before I get the turbo on it and get crazy

I am also getting a logger which will help with the comp. diagnos!

I've heard of that before. I once heard that the differential gets so heated that something melts and locks, and only the rear wheels spin. Not sure if it's common or true though. ever feel like the rear end is sliding out on you?

I have not driven it enough to tell, like I said, Ive only put about 100 mile on it since I bought it! All I know about this problem is that I got stuck in the mud and couldnt get out because it was only spinning rears, it might have been spinning one front one since I was only looking on the drivers side, but there were no marks from spinning the tires! that sounds like your center diff is busted. if you have been driving on it your vc is proably toast also.

Not all 4 tires spin at the same time, our cars have limited slip, your front tire on the other side could have been spinning but if not you can allways have the center diff welded together, be sure you do it the right way, here is a link that may help.. Good luck :thumb:

Yeah, I am not positive but by the looks of the tire tracks, neither front tires were spinning!!!! :thumbdown

I was wondering, if the front diff was blown or removed, would it still drive. I am not sure what the previous owner did to it, but I know he was cheap

and my dad thought of this.

OF course it would still drive. Ive heard of it before. You can get a new one for quite a bit.

The only problem with this setup is I think the visous coulpling is either slipping or otherwise, robbing power :mad:

Is this normal?? anybody experienced this!!!!

I dont have the turbo on but it feels underpowered like none other! I dont think even honda have this little power!!!

I jacked up the front pass. tire and it spins freely, no sounds at all! thats when its in gear!!!!!!!!

You Blew your center diff and if you keep driving it the chunks of the gears in the center diff will go through the tranny and you will break the tranny. I did this but all i was doing was a 3rd gear pull on a 14b at 10psi and i heard a loud pop

and i went to flip a u-turn and my ass end was just smoking both tires and i ended up learding to drive a rwd for about 25 miles but it tosted my Bearings and syncros in the tranny so don't drive it. You will end up breaking your rearend and more stuff in the tranny. :thumb:

Yea, I was not plannin on drivin OF DRIFTIN it, even though what was said above

Anyways, you think that when the center diff blows, it will feel like a slipping clutch!!?? :confused:

Please help!! I have the front pass. tire off and tranny drained(didnt see any metalics in it, although I just had the fluid filled) and am ready to tear a new hole in her!!!

Yeah it will feel like the clutch is slipping because your not puting all the power to the ground. You have drive train loss and all the friction so your car works really hard to put nothing to the ground but it not slipping. My tranny didn't either but when i popped her open shit was every where. :cry:

I NEED HELP!!? Ok finally got ithe cover off, along with the vc. i went to turn the pass tire and the gear turns, so then I jacked up the drivers front and it turns the gear also. Is this correct?? Could it still be the center diff? I am pretty sure the vc is blown too! :cry:

I put it back on and tried it again, nothing??? WTF? :mad:

i think my transfer case is locked and want to configure it..

could i jack up just the rear tires to see if they spin freely to check if its locked.

Or do i need all 4 tires up in the air?

Jack it up and try to turn the driveshaft.

from what I understand, if the t-case is locked up the car won't move at all.

you could always jack up the front, remove the driveshaft and see if the transfer case turns.

yes its not moving.. my car is an auto..

i jacked up the front tires only and they spun..

so im assuming already its the rear ones that are locked.

Drain the fluid on the transfer case and see what it looks like. IT is also possible that the rear diff is locked up, but more likely that the transfer is locked up.

so if i drop the transfer case and it moves freely in neutral is it safe to say the rear differential is good?
