so i just got a set of wossner 8:1 pistons and eagle rods and im using arp head studs and rod studs, and acl bearings. The block is getting bored to match the .020 over pistons along with hot tanking and decking...ect. pretty much a fully built bottom end.... the car is going to be daily driven, and some drag passes probly, so im not looking to get some extreme HP but i am shooting for atleast around 450 and reving to 7500-8000 on 272 cams. Im wondering if it is necessary to get some ARP main studs and get it line honed, or will the stock mains be okay? id like to save some money if i can but if you guys think it is a must for that power level then i will do it. im not sure on what turbo im going with yet but i plan on boosting around 25lbs. thanx

You would want to use the ARP Mains as they will A) make you feel safer about the bottom end and B) withstand more power than the oem bolts will withstand.

I wanna say you can be safe with stock main bolts at 450hp but at the same time, your kinda pushing it :idontknow:...

So to be honest, id go ahead and do the ARP Mains...

When it comes to your engine.. please PLEASE!! Dont be cheap...

The DSM main caps for the 6-bolt engines are actually very strong. If your goals are under 600 WHP I would just stick with the stock "suitcase handles" and there bolts. I only use ARP main studs when the engine is a stroker (due to the added rod angle on the crank and the extra unbalance harmonics) or the engine is pushing 600+ WHP. If you want a little more cheap insurance buy a Kiggly main girdle, this makes the center main cap that houses the thrust bearing much stronger/stable as it is not attached to any other main cap.

thanx guys.....i did some searching on the threads and found alot usefull info....i will have my shop check too see if they are in spec and if so i will just stick with stock. if it needs to be re-lined then ill go with ARP,...im not gonna lose any sleep over the main studs as im sure that would be the last thing to fail if anything.....i guss i should have done my reserch before i posted , but thanks anyways guys i appreciate it.

very good info:thumb: thanx

FYI, You need to get the ARP's if your going to use the main girdle though because they give you the extra length required to use it.
