If your turbo is still making power and increasing in boost, what do you need a wastegate for?

To build boost faster. You essentially trick the wastegate into thinking there is more or less boost then there actually is.

Refer to the previous posts regarding that co2 system.

As my question stated, since the turbo is constantly spooling and still building boost at redline...then why even need a wastegate to limit said boost, if regulation of boost is actually not needed?

For the lower gears, he might not even untilize the wastegate at all, but for the higher gears, you will obviously need the wastegate to open.

with reguards to the Co2
I agree on the turbo being able to spool faster and the power curve comming on sooner, being able to make more power at lower RPM's. Than a waste gate system with out Co2.
BUT
if the Turbo is Still making power at red line .....if the turbo can spool faster it will move the power curve to the left 200-500rpm wouldnt that produce more power on the top end also.

No, it would still be the same turbo, at the same boost level, thus moving the same amount of air. The power on the top end would not be affected. If you had two dyno runs, one with the c02 system regulating boost to 8psi, (example) and the other with only a 8psi spring and no BC, the only difference would be a steeper slope on the leading edge of the dyno graph with the c02, vs. the graph without it.

For some reason I seem to be having a difficult time describing this. Perhaps somebody with a better sense of the English language could say it more clearly.

You will reach max boost quicker using co2 than using a traditional spring.

Quicker spool doesn't = more Hp; Just more power / boost earlier.

Bad example, but turbo with lag vs turbo without lag.

I think you summed it up very nicely. I think the only other way to explain would be with a picture... notice that the onset of power is quicker, but not the peak power. I guess it's somewhat worth it for an all out drag car, but I vaguely remember hearing that this car was supposed to be somewhat streetable. I guess that goal went out the window a long time ago. Either way, I don't think the CO2 system is totally necessary... you'll notice many others are just using ridiculously strong springs. Electronic actuation would be another interesting idea.

This is obviously a track slut or close to it pretty soon...so as I said, wastegate is unnecessary hahaha.

Hell if the motor can handle the pressure and the turbo can handle the rpm's... who needs a wastegate! :D

Your foot turns into the manual boost controller! You want more boost, press your foot a little harder :D

Locke and Velocita, I think those both are both very good good descriptions (and illustrations). I understood after my first question about it, but, well, I tried to explain it but it wasn't happening.

I just wrote something more in regards to flattening out the curve, then erased it because it would probably have caused more confusion ;) . I think this has been adequetly explained in that it will not generate more peak horsepower, but give you more control over the horsepower that you have.

Great. Now that that is all taken care of, I think it is about time for more build pics, and new discussion. :)

WTF OMG ....Damn!! I haven't been on here in a while but it sure looks like the car is coming along well. The more I think about the fact that you have the price of a brand new Evo MR invested in your car the more I wonder if someone can love their car that much. Hopefully someday I'll get to that point in life (at least when I can afford it anyway :sosad: ).

ROFL LOL :D

That was funny dude.

Just a little FYI for ya................................I just shit my pants, that just happened.

thats an amazing engine bay OMG

You know with the way the intercooler is right next the turbo, you might be able to get away with just cutting an arch in the front bumper...to go across the turbo inlet and leave more room for the intercooler up top.

Maybe even consider buying one of the ebay stock front bumpers, and cut the S#$t out of it.
