My 2g 6 Bolt Build

I have a few more things to complain about dealing with Jackson Auto Machine's product and service. I was already pissed about their work so far and today just topped it all off. First off, I go to put the oil dipstick holder in and find out there is a broken one already in the hole that JAM never took out. So I had to drop the oil pan and knock it out from the inside. Then while the pan was off I noticed that one of the pan bolt holes is helicoiled. For a $2400 block their product is ridiculous, I cant believe how many flaws I found in it. That is the LAST time I ever purchase anything through them. Also, I emailed them about the studs they took out of the head and didnt put back in, days later and still no response.

Well as far as the helicoil goes. It's not a big deal. You are not taking new blocks to sell. They are using old motors and machining them. So the helicoil is a good thing. At least they did that. I am shocked about the dipstick. I mean how can you do all the machine work and assembly and not realize this tube protruding.

The missing studs is ridiculous.

Yeah I agree, the helicoil isn’t a huge deal, but everything else sucks. Especially having to sand down the crank shaft to fit the crank sprocket on it! THATS RIDICULOUS, when I called they told me I’m an amateur builder and I’m probably over looking something. I’m like, "im trying to stick a circle over a shaft, what could I possibly be over looking?!” The guy told me "it’s probably something very simple, once you figure it out you will kick yourself in the ass” Well I did figure it out, the shaft had a lip on the end of it for some reason that needed to be sanded down just like I told them in the first place. The spacer they gave me to replace the balance shaft belt sprocket went over the "lip" with a little finesse, but the crank sprocket had to be hammered on. Which is NEVER coming back off, I had to whack it pretty damn hard to get it on.

As for the dipstick, that’s exactly my thoughts. They build motors for a living and didn’t notice it? They painted right over it!

I STILL haven’t heard back from them about the studs, I just ordered new ones from JNZtuning.

I’m just really hoping this motor runs right after all the things I already found wrong with it.

This is how the motor is sitting currently.
Im waiting on the CAS studs so I can put the motor hoist bracket on and take the motor off the stand to put the rear main seal on. Then the motor will be ready for install. The oil housing will be put on once the motor is in the car.

Looks good man :thumb: why such a small turbo? btw, when you're done, you should submit a tech article for this work!

Thanks, the turbo is just temporary, plus its brand new and I want to get some use out of it before buying a bigger one. I also dont have the money currently to buy a new turbo, this project is draining my pocket.

This is my tech article! I have way too many hours of labor into this project :thumb:

Hey guys, I was wondering what your thoughts were on this. I just took a look at my pressure plate and clutch that have been sitting for months and months now. They both have rust on them and I was wondering what everyone thinks I should do about it?

I have been trying to call a machine shop to see if I can have them slightly resurface the pressure plate because the rust is minimal and only on the surface.

As for the clutch, there is rust in where the springs are and other random spots. Is this going to be a problem If I install it as is?

Yeah, mine had similar surface rust and it's fine. I really wouldn't worry about it too much.

Are you saying I should just install it as is and let the clutch remove the rust?

Also, how was your clutch, was it rusty like mine in the spring area?

Well wipe it off real good, I don't know about taking steel wool to it or anything but wipe it off and let it do the rest. And yes my clutch got a little rusty in the spring area too.

I talked to my buddy at work tonight who was a mechanic for years. He told me basically the same thing, to leave the clutch alone and install it as is. And to take very fine scotchbrite and rub the rust off the pressure plate. That works for me :thumb:

Looks good man! :thumb: I'm actually in the middle on my own 6-bolt swap right now. But, I'm waiting for the machine work on the block and for my pistons to come in.

Thanks, its alot of fun. I just jumped into a ton of projects at once. The fuel line, gauges, FMIC and motor are a lot to do in one shot. Hopefully everything works out in my favor. Good luck with your build.

Well I took some brake cleaner and scotchbrite to the pressure plate. There is some pitting on the pressure plate surface from the rust. Is this something I should worry about? or should I just install it?
