Ok guys well my 95 gst has been down for a while now, about a year, and over this time ive thought about rebuilding the 7 bolt I took out of it until just recently I found a 6 bolt from a friend for very very cheap. I got the complete 6 bolt from valve cover to the oil pan......
Since this is my very first 6 bolt swap/build I plan on just using my 2g pistons on the 1g rods, that should be good for the hp I want (evo16g maybe a 50 trim).
I have the 2g motor mount I need to modify, 2g alternator, 2g fuel rail..etc
As far as the 6 bolt, all I know is that the car I took it off has been sitting for a while about 2-3 years, the crank turns, the head looks good, and I took the oil pan off and everything checks out.
Need some opinions on what to do next....should I rebuild the block and head? or should I drop it in the way it is, also let me know what you think about the 2g piston 1g rod combo.
Thanks for the help guys!

Good luck with the swap man. I am about to start mine too...what are you HP goals

Thanks. My hp goal's are about 350, im just trying to run a evo3 for now. Since my car has been down for a while I just want to get it started again.....i just want to make sure the engine is good because if its not then im going to go all out with forged internals and a big turbo.

Money isn't the matter but since this is my first swap or build I don't want to spend too much money into it just yet. I plan on doing a leak down test next week

I would rebuild the engine while its out. Especially if youre keeping stock internals, you wont much money into the bottom end PLUS you get the reassurance knowing its all new. If youve never rebuilt an engine though, I would have someone do it for you. Unless youre fairly compentant and believe you know what you are doing.

Good luck.

Im probably going to rebuild the head...use my 2g pistons with new rings on the 1g rods and rebuild pulley accessories (front cover, water pump etc). Its my first build but I know I can do it.....

Ok guys well I took the engine to the machine shop and they told me it was in good shape. Today I took the head off just to make sure everything checked out....here are some pics.
Everything looks good but it just looks like its been sitting for a really long time, there is alot of carbon build up, especially on the exhaust side of the head. From checking out the valves it looks like the head really needs a rebuild. The bottom end looks in very good shape, the pistons look good except for the carbon build up on the pistons.
I plan on getting the head rebuilt and leave the bottom end alone......
Let me know what you guys think :thumb:

Looks good man! Keep at it! Id replace them there valve stem seals while the heads off to make it easy, plus they are cheap so its probably better now since youll need to down the road..

Yea I plan on getting the whole head rebuilt :thumb:

Good luck man. I won't be to that point for a while, Im trying to do everything right.......hopefully the wait will be worth it

Crazy enough, the longer you take, the more satisfying the results. I wish I would have listened to myself last year because if I did, I wouldn't be planning on taking my short block out again this year :(

Oh well, time to upgrade :D

Yea I know I can just throw some used parts on there and go ahead and do the swap, but it would probably give me alot of problems. Right now im just debating on wether I should just do the 2g piston 1g rod combo or not.....because I know im going to want to turn the boost up, and I really don't want to pull the engine unless I have to. All the timing parts, water pump etc im getting new....and the head im getting rebuilt with maybe a mild port on it. Since im rebuilding the head, im going to save some money and go ahead and do the block also because there is no point in getting the head done and not the block.
Ive got everything else I need to do the 6 bolt swap, 2g mount, harness, 2g rail, etc.
