The 6 bolt will be arriving this week hopefull then we can order parts. I have a '97 GS-T with a 50 trim and 680's and that stuff. I know the turbo will be able to put down 400whp most likely, but I want to mildly build the 6 bolt to 500hp capable because I'd rather max out the turbo then the engine.

I will have a 6 bolt long block, assuming my 2G head is bad... And I will also be doing the necessary 6 bolt swap stuff like thermostat and throttle body and all gaskets and belts... So far, I was thinking
A/C delete
B/S delete
Updated Lifters
Weisco Pistons (What compression though 9:1?)
Cometic Headgasket
Adjustable Cam Gears
HKS Cams

I don't know if I should keep the 6 bolt rods, I want to because I am on a budget, but I don't want to destroy them.

Keep in mind I am a newbie to internals, and have searched so just give your opinion, thanks.

I would recommend changing the rods, If the engine already out, then do it. It will save later on if you decide to run more hp. No use taking out the motor twice.

You should definately go with some eagle rods over those adjustable cam gears.

What kind of a budget are you on $$ wise. Guys that have been threw all this know is an expensive and long process.
You have a 50 trim and you said 680s so thats a real good start. I would keep that turbo and injectors for the time being so you can put more money in the motor/trany were you need it.
I would max out that 50 trim then move onto something bigger then you will have the money for it.
I would at least go with forged rods and upgraded pistons or use your old 2gs with new rings. Dont forget a new oil pump.

Buy some BC 272 or 280 cams instead of HKS cams and use the money saved to buy some crower rods.

For a badass build that would be more than capable for your setup...

-Crower 6 bolt rods
-Ross 8.5 cp pistons
-Cometic or Mitsubishi Head Gasket
-ARP rod bots, main bolts, head studs

As far as the head goes...For a basic setup.....

-Brian Crower Springs/retainer kit
-Brian Crower 280 cams
-3G Lifters

You may want to also get OS valves, seals and locks but that is up to you. That should get you started.
