I have a 1990 plymouth laser, just the base model. Since I bought it I have replaced the engine, distributor, ecu and many other parts and my car still runs like crap. When I am accelerating my car bucks like crazy, sometimes the check engine light comes on, but then goes off shortly after. My car also idles rough (I replaced the isc motor, but it still idles low) and it doesn't have good acceleration at all ( almost seems to go slower before it goes faster) lastly, to start it I have to let it turn over 5-7 times before it weakly starts up. This car lacks any power or speed and I wish I knew why. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am going to try replacing the spark plug wires and plugs, I hope that helps!

You should check the spark, could also be a bad coil pack, or perhaps timing belt is off? Next time, please post a thread topic relevant to the problem you are having with your car.

Well personally, I probably would have done plugs and wires before the engine ;)

Check your ECU. There's a good chance you have leaking caps, which is a common problem on 1G's, and will make your car run like veritable ass.
 
thanks for the suggestions on my car and my post, I'll post an update when I replace my plugs and spark plug wires!
 
I replaced the plugs and the wires and my car doesn't missfire almost at all anymore. I do unfortunatly still have a big problem with my car bucking. The plugs and wires smoothed it out a bit, but it wants to buck on acceleration and at driving speed still. This problem worst (much worse) when it's raining or if there is a lot of moisture in the air. I was thinking about replacing the distributor cap and rotor to see if that helps as well (I just had a new distributor put in around march). I'll put a post here when I put the cap and rotor in and tell you if it helped. Any other ideas would help a lot, if I can't figure out what's going on with my car I can't keep it unfortunatly.

The fact that the problem being worse in moist conditions would lead me to check ignition components (moist air conducts electricity better) If that doesn't work try replacing the Fuel filter. Also, i'm assuming you have a 1.8 since I the 2.0L had distributorless ignition.
 
Im not sure how the 1.8 disty works, whether it has the crankshaft position sensor built in or not. If it doesn't, replace the CKPS first, and if that doesn't do it, your looking at a new distributor itself. Costly yes I know, but necessary.
