Got my MR downpipe, but the flange is at the wrong angle... so it's going to an exhaust shop.

My WBo2 sensor is providing my narrowband signal as well as the WB. (Stock o2 went out and the WB's narrowband signal works great as a replacement).

My question is....

Because of my cabling and other wiring mods, I don't trust anyone at the shops around here to have a clue. And I'm sure most of them won't let me in there to "supervise" :D. So I was wondering if there was a way I could remove the o2 sensor temporarily (long enough to get to the shop and back) without any major consequences.

I'm thinking I could just remove it, plug the bung, and tuck the wiring out of the way.... let them weld a new bung on the MR and do their thing... drive it back home and hook the sensor back up.

Any thoughts?

Thanks as always....

So whats really wrong with your down pipe? What flange is it thats not right? Do you have the full turbo back. What o2 housing do you have? I have the MR turbo back and it fits perfect with the Stock o2 housing. If you are using an XS power o2 housing or an SSautochrome, then it will not fit. The housing seems to be shorter and more angled than the stock o2 housing. And your MR dp. will be against the oil pan, transmission and other components. This happend to my 92 talon.

To the question, just drive the car to the shop and as soon as you get there, disconnect everything. If you still have the old o2 sensor, put it back on and take it like that.
I haven't run my car without an o2 sensor but if you do it, I believe that you will have a rich condition and have a CEL.

I have a big16g on a stock o2 housing... I just held it up under the car and checked it out with my calibrated eyes ;)... the rear flange is the one that is off, enough to be obvious. The previous owner put a 2-1/2" cat back exhaust on, but left the stock downpipe WTF ... so the MR DP doesn't match up to whatever it is he had welded up. I'm gonna have to have a reducer welded to the existing exhaust also until I can get a full 3" back.

As for the sensor.. my problem is that I have the sensor currently located in front of the flex pipe. On the new DP, I want it further back, which means I'm gonna have to rerun the wiring back behind the engine and tranny to get the WB sensor cable to reach. (right now it comes straight out at the front and is zip-tied to the clutch line). And I don't know if I'll have time to screw around with that when the shop bolts up the DP.

On a related note... can I unscrew the sensor without unplugging it from the WB harness (sensor cable is about 2ft long), or will it twist too much and damage the wiring? I screwed it in before hooking it up when I installed it.

Even when unscrewing a regular stock o2 sensor from the housing, you have to unplug it.
So yes. You will have to unplug it. Sorry. At least I would. You could try it but as soon as you start unscrewing it, it will start to twist and build up tension.
