Alrighty, i havnt got the 2g eclipse because I am a 6'10'' dude, so... of course i dont fit in the car very well in its stock form, ive been asking around the web if anyone has done mods to the floor where you move back the seats back far enough so that us tall guys could fit, and would drilling new holes degrade the floor boards, and make them weaker, or would welding be the way to go...

Has anyone done this? If so could you post some pics, and point me to some people who have... thanks guys

um no

you can't.

it's not a flat floor and it wouldn't do you any good anyway.

the factory seats go all the way back to the back seat anyway.

drop the rear of the seat, recline the seat back a little, up the front a little and you should fit... If not forget about it. or buy a spyder.

actually they dont, there still is about a foot distance between the two, and thats why i ask because that room might be used to move it back some... hmmm

anyone else? Thanks for the reply

A foot between the two? I have my seat about 3/4 of the way back and I don't even have 4 inches inbetween the back of the front seat and the back seat. When I have my seat all the way back, there's probably an inch of room, if that even. I'm not sure doing what you want to do would work, even if you would take the back seats out...?

yah well thats what i forgot to mention, i wouldnt have any problems taking out the back seats, so that gives the extra room, between the flat portion where the chair sits stock and where the back seats rest, in that area... maybe that helps

a guy in DFW DSM is like 6'7" or 6'8" and fits in his 2g just fine. if you felt it was necessary to move the seats back you SHOULD NOT WELD. use all manufacteurer strength hardware. and you will have to drill through the bottom or base of the car. yes the floor is uneven and you will somehow have to build a very strong base to put the stock brackets onto. but it IS possible for u to do this, just might need a lil innovation and ALOT of time if you want to do this right.

I'm 6'5 my driver seat is all the way back and I can barely fit my hand between it and the back seat, so I have no bloody idea what you are talking about. If thats as far as the seat is going back, theres something wrong with it.

look at the above post, not when seat hit seats, but the bases, take away the back seats and side the base back, thats what im trying to figure out if its possible, cause i mean... moving it 5 inches cant be too bad on the panels, thats what im trying to figure out

does anyone else possibly have any insight? the info so far has been good and led me to do alot more research on it

BigMike i feel your pain, well somewhat, I'm 6'5'' and I have a tough time in my 2G. I hate all these shorter guys saying that their tall friends fit in just fine to their DSM...whatever their friends must not have legs. Anyway one thing I found that helped was putting some washers underneath the steering column mount under the dash. That let me raise the steering wheel an extra half-inch or so. Maybe you could do something more radical there and put like 1/2 inch spacings in there to let you bend your knees. Haven't found anything yet for the seat but I'm still looking.

hey.. i know this might be a wierd request but do one of you guys maybe wanna get a look under your eclipse(2g) and see if there is anything in the area of where the seat is, if it were to be pushed back, lines, exhaust that kinda thing, and if it is flat.... thanks :) dont wanna be crawling around on my belly at a dealership :)

Hey bud I've taken mine in and out more than I can remember. There is a sensor beneath the seat for your seatbelt. There are some other lines running back but nothing that would hinder you from resituating a bracket. What you might want to take into consideration is the layout on how the seat is planted. It lays flat on the front two bolts, but on the rear two bolts it lays on a raised piece of metal. Maybe a half inch of raised metal.

Past that raised metal, there is only 8-10 inches or so of space until you reach the back seat. If you do decide to fabricate something, I would probably think you would have to take the back seat out. But then, I could be wrong.

If you decide to reanimate the piece of raised metal further back by welding a piece of metal the same height as the other one, make note that you will have two holes visible in the carpet in front of the seat from where the original front holes were. You would also have to take out the original raised metal so the bracket could lay normally.

Whoa, sorry for the long post, but I hope this helps.

wow that actually helps quite a bit, thanks for the advice, Holes can always be patched :) this really does give me alot more confidence in my descision.

thin, aftermarket seats would help alot, along with modification of aftermarket seat rails would allow the most possible room as far as seating. You could basically sit on the floor 100% flush to the rear seat, with a very thin seat taking up no room frontwards. and the modification to the steering column using washers that was mentioned above. Also a flat-bottomed steering wheel, such as the sparco, and maybe adjusting the positioning of the pedals (not sure if this is possible, most likely can be done though.

That's my best ideas so far.

Like I've been saying mike, double check everything under your seat, it sounds like your seat isn't going back as far it should be. My seat goes back almost to the point that it hits the rear seat.

I am 6'2" and my seat is probably halfway back. Of course I like proper seating. Sit with your shoulders firmly planted in the seat and you want your wrist to rest on the wheel.
I think your big problem will be steering wheel clearence. There is a mod to fix that, I am too lazy to find it but if you look around you should be able to find a post that explains how to shim the wheel up. I think another good thing would be low profile racing seats and either a removable steering wheel or a wheel spacer, either one will move the wheel back a bit allowing you to recline more and still reach the wheel. The main reason I won't move my wheel out is because I like where my turn signal and wiper controlls are and don't want to change it. I hate how low they put the wheels on these cars. Who needs them to go as low as they do? My girlfriend is like 5'2" and she has hers adjusted 2/3 of the way up. I dont see any reason why your steering wheel should drop down to your seat but not go up far enough for a 6' guy to sit properly.

Hello.

First, a disclaimer:
I don't exactly have the car know how. So please refrain from they "you're a dumbass" comments.

Now, on with my issue.
I am 6'2 and I have come to realize that I have no use for the bench seats. I have to push the seat all the way back and it gives the people behind me literally no leg room.

So, I have decided to remove the bench seat.

How do I go about doing that and what do you suggest I replace it with?

If you are speaking of the rear Bucket seats:

The lower will come out first.
There are hubs that you pull on, one on each side.
Pull out the bucket seats.

Then, i'm not sure what size but you'll need a wrench to remove the upper parts.
Then you're good.

As to replace.. Um No clue. Most people just leave it.

You don't have many options as far as replacing unless your going to do something custom, but that would cost too much and leave the rear passenger no head room. Just don't bring more than one person anywheres :D

I've seen some people do fiberglass work and put in the storage bins from an RX7 back there. Looks super clean if done right IMO

If you are not car inclined, just take your time when doing stuff. Also it's always nice to learn how to do new things. Always about trial and error. I'm trying to learn how to fiberglass right now. You've come to the right place to get help. Everyone here is very helpful and the tech articles are really nice as well.

I would love to see pics of the above mentioned RX7 boxes....

Anyone have any pics where there was a 2G rear seat delete almost like a 350z or a 300zx? I would consider doing such a thing. Also not looking for some moron who built a box and tossed like 4 subs in it LOL.

The RX7 boxes do look nice if done properly.

Why do you want to remove it, just because you don't use it, more room to carry stuff, planning on stripping the car?

When I removed my rear seats I just cut some headliner material you can get from Jo-Ann Fabrics and covered up the exposed floorpan. It looks ok.

Uh.... no, it doesn't.

When I did my rear delete, I mocked it like the 350z. My buddy had one and it inspired me. Ill snap a pic later, but I built a frame out of some wood and went at it with black indoor outdoor carpet. A few people thought it was factory.. I know, no pics, no use. Just give me a little bit.

I think you might get an extra 2 inchs out of moving it back. The seats may touch but thats OKAY they're just foam.

The simplest way to do this would be to make mount plate extenders.

Get 2 strips of 1/4" steel that are 6" wide and are 24" long, weld a 1" strip on to make an L shape

Then drill 4 holes...2 holes for the stock bolts and 2 holes for the NEW bolts!

Now in the rear you may have to weld the plate extender on so the old bolts aren't in the way.
It's going to raise the seat 1/4" but I think it will be okay.

The parts in red are the extenders
