I saw somebody with a mountain dew bottle as a catch can, an I really wanted to do it... I think it is awesome. So I went searching through the forums trying to find the proper way to set up the catch can, but I cannot seem to find what I am looking for which is: an explanation of WHAT lines I need to run TO WHERE, and FROM WHERE if I want to use a mountain dew bottle.

Where does the line from the left side of the valve cover go?

Where does the line from the PCV go?

What do I do with the nipple on the intake manifold that used to go to the PCV? Block it off?

Where can I get a vacuum source to run to the bottle? How can I make sure it doesn't leak? Will the bottle collapse? Thanks.

A Husky air compresser filter is like $10 from Home Depot.

I paid $11.97 each :sosad: :p But then you have to buy the NPT hose barb fittings for each side of each filter. So yes, it does cost a bit more than a Mt. Dew bottle, but looks 100x better and are a lot easier to hide somewhere so you don't even see them!

I had a coke bottle, it worked good and I used teflon tape on cap to seal it off but its out now because to many people hate on it. Personal preferance i guess. My friend just used a fuel filter on the line between the valve cover and intake. It catches some oil and works good, you dont have to worry about any vac leaks. I know some people on here do that.

Are you confusing the radiator expansion tank and a catch can?

All this silly talk about Mountain Dew bottles as catch cans just made me go to the vending machine and instead of hitting the Pepsi button as I wanted, the Dew was on the mind so I accidentally hit the button. Now I have to drink it. Oh well.

See guys, this is why you should not use it or even talk about it for a catch can. Now if I take a drink of my Gatorade under the hood I'll really be in trouble.:barf:

ROFL

This is my set up, it keeps unmetered air from going into the intake mani

emoguitarboy... you may want to change your setup. You've effectively disabled your entire PCV setup by combining the PCV port and breather port into one catch can. With that setup your are boosting your intake pipe (read: major boost leak) as well as your valve cover, under boost (read: dangerous). OUCH! :nono:

Nope...That's why ihave the poor boy MBC on there, basically its installed backward from what it would be on a turbo. When there's pressure its closed, then when theres any vacume it opens. :thumb: I haven't had a problem yet.

Haha you guys don't like the mountain dew bottle? I have seen it done on about 7 different DSMs, and it seems like all the people that did have it, were very quick cars. (10 and 9 second cars) That is why I didn't find it to be super ghetto.

Well I took a look at my brother's RRE catch can and I imitated it, figuring out how to keep unmetered air from going through the system, all for under 20 bucks. :thumb: I love the HD both 1080p & the performance parts store LOL

I guess I will eventually cap off the PCV (from the manifold) and just run it open air, but I'll wait untill I actually have a big catch can and I'll mount it in place of the charcoal filter. I'm tired of draining this every month or so.

I'm reviving this thread because tonight I considered the same thing, but with a bottle of NOS (energy drink). C'mon, you know you love the idea.
