Hey, well my car is missing the rear mount mount entirely, which makes for a rough ride to say the least. I just purchased the mount, but Im not really sure where to start. How do I go about replacing the rear mount, is there a process? Any info would be great. Thanks a lot!

That's funny. I'm missing the rear one too completely. The kid before must have just figured it wasn't important when replacing the engine.

Im not replacing the mount insert. Im missing like...the whole thing!

My engine is resting on what Im guessing is part of the frame? Yeah its all bent up to hell.

Do I jack my engine up to get to it? How do I jack my engine up?

Sorry, gave you the wrong link. http://www.plymouthlaser.com/bmount.htm

You can jack up the car by placing a block of wood in between the oil pan and jack, mount the motor mount on the chasis via 3 bolts then slowly low the motor to the right height to install the long bolt through the mount.

It amazes me that you haven't torn stuff all to hell with the engine flopping around...namely axles and tranny cases. I would get that fixed ASAP.

What you're looking for is this (Item 1):

Also on the back of the tranny you should have a bracket similar to this:

The rear is a PITA to get at, but it's possible. As for getting the engine up, make sure you use a block of wood, I used a 2 x 12 about a foot long in order to spread the load, if jacking up on the oil pan. You might be able to jack against the tranny case, but make sure it's stable before you stick your hands in there. Of course the better way would be the "spreader bar" type lift, or a "roll-around" engine lift.

Also make sure the frame isn't beat to sh!t, but without the mount I wouldn't expect it to be.

edit: damn...oldman beat me to the punch while I was screwing around.

Thanks, I would like to replace it as soon as possible, but I dont know how confident I feel doing all this by myself. But Im going to have to try sooner or later wont I? Again, thanks for the info.

Oh yeah, all my other mounts are torn, both tie rod ends were shot, both my cv joints are popping, and my interior squeaks like no other. Im sure that mount is to blame for at least some of these.

Jim, he has a 90', you gave him info on 2Gs. 1G trannies only has one mount on the passinger side. :tease:

I recommend not driving it at all until it's fixed, aside from having more engine than tranny movement, let's hope the surface where the motor mount bolts to isn't damaged beyond repair. Good luck.

It's not a hard job, just a little time consuming. If you can pull parts and replace them, it'll be no problem. However, sometimes it's good to have a buddy for moral support and maybe lend a hand with any project tackled.

And you should really replace all the torn mounts as when one goes it will start taking out the others. So without changing the other torn ones, you could conceivably be right back doing this same mount again, if not worse.

And yes, I would say that missing mount is the cause of ALL the listed problems, especially the "going-out" CV joints. If it was mine I would also check on the ball joints too, especially the passenger side.

Oops....my mistake, I have the 2G manual "running on standby" on just about every computer I touch. Hopefully the "thought process" is the same.

Sorry.

edit: added revised drawing. Dotted lines indicate mounting bracket on engine.

Its alright, one off topic question though. I didnt want to create a new thread. Im replacing my throttle body right now and I cant get the accelerator cable off the holder. Does anyone have advice?

Even when I loosen up the cable, I cant get that little cylinder out of its holder. It gets caught on the bracket. Im afraid Im going to ruin the cable. This isnt the exact picture, but its what Im talking about.

Just turn the throttle by hand as shown in the picture (WOT). With the other hand move the cable where it's "in-line" with the groove, then the cable "cylinder" should slide out. It could be kind of snug, but it should still slide out.

Hope that and the picture helps:
