motor mount cracked?

hey guys, does anyone know what a bad motor mount would sound like? sometimes when i change gears i hear a pretty loud knock coming from the drivers side..but usually only in first gear or if i hit a pothole and mash the throttle ### my hard suspension. say whenever i put some torque i hear the knock.. i have some rust around the drivers front shock mount and a descent size hole but im hoping the sound isnt coming from there.... i can it a pothole or bump when the clutch pedal is down and i dont hear anything so i doubt its suspension related. it really only happens when im in gear and the motor would rock ... thanks i know its a pretty vague question but any help is much appreciated

Im not sure what they would sound like but just look at it. If its bad enough that its knocking then it needs to be replaced. Sounds like the rubber part is not there.

There is a real simple test for this go out to your car and try and move the motor. Depending on how strong you are it will move a little but not a lot. If you see some significant movement in a area where a mount is, it is bad and replace it.

Sounds exactly like the driver motor mount. That happened to me 6 months ago, I had the same symtoms. I could also tell because the metal sleeve that the bolt goes through was separated from the rest of the mount. at times it would also be hard to shift into certain gears. I replaced mine with a polyurithane kit, which took care of everything.

Sry for capturing your thread but I don't wanna make a new topic for this, so I write it here:

The shaking is a PITA so I assume my mounts are broken. I need new ones. I'd like to buy Prothane motor mounts but I can only find sets with 2 full mounts for front and rear and stupid inserts for left and right. Does anybody know if the sets for 1Gs or 3Gs fit into the 2G (NT MT) mount brackets? these are available with 4 full-fledged mounts:

PROTHANE ECLIPSE 90-94 URETHANE MOTOR MOUNT INSERT NEW! | eBay

If it does not fit, can you give me a link for something similar for 2Gs?

thanks for all the responses, yeah it sounds like its coming more from the drivers side than the front of the engine but im going to go take out the battery and check her out in the morning light and yes the engine shakes alot especially during start up thats what initially got me thinking motor mount. ill post back in the AM. thanks again

I would also check the rear mount.I cracked mine a couple times.Mine always sounded like the shock was loose also.I would try having someone jack your motor up slowly while you inspect the mounts.

And these sets are only available for 1G or 3G Eclipses (see the link I've posted above). I want to replace the 4 old rubber parts completely with the new PU parts and reuse the brackets.

Can anyone tell me if the 1G or 3G PU-mounts fit into the 2G brackets?

okay so i opened the hood, looked around a bit and the motor really does move around just by hand. I crawled underneath to check he rear and there is just some loose piece of metal im going to get a camera and post a pic tomorrow. but it was getting dark could really see where it went anyways. as for the motor mounts im just going to replace them all to prothane if i can. if anyone has done this job could you tell me if im going to run into any problems? want to change the brackets also if possible. thanks.

Put a jack under the oil pan... replace one at a time

And I'd still like to know if the rubber parts from 1G, 2G and 3G 2.4l are the same size. At least 1G and 2G could be the same due to the engine, but I need facts.

I thought the only difference between manual and auto was the tranny mount.
