So I’m building a 4g63 for a 2g and I know I can put rockers out of an evo in the head but I’m not sure which ones. Does anyone have a part number or a list of cars and years that had them? And any other ideas for a Mitsubishi original parts I can throw at it from different cars/engines to get a little more power?

I think all the variations of the 4g63 use 1.7:1 rocker ratio. So it wouldn't be an upgrade to swap the rockers. I just pulled the head on my 98 and saw we have factory roller rockers. So it doesn't get much better. I've heard some people say the evo's have 1.72 or something, but that it is only because larger cams change geometry when measured enough to get a different ratio. So it wouldn't show as that on a 2g engine. My knowledge is just theoretical and I don't know a lot about this as fact or not. Just sharing what I've read.

If all else is stock on the 2nd gen you are building, and it is an originally turbo car, make sure to take advantage of the free power mods. Like cutting the bov dump tube, removing the waste-gate solenoid restriction, swapping out the plastic bov to a 1g steel bov. Bypassing the coolant lines to the throttle if you aren't in freezing climates. Cleaning and directing cold airflow to the inter-cooler if still smic.

Also.. supposedly you can stroke the 4g63 with a 4g64 crank and get the larger displacement. Not sure what is involved in that swap though and if the head needs spaced for valve clearance etc. I actually have a 4g64 engine out of a third gen eclipse. Someday I might get the urge to look into the swap. Or maybe only the cranks out of a 2g 4g64 would work?

Very nice thanks for all the great info especially the bit about the free power mods. I definitely will take advantage of those. I actually don’t have the car yet, although I have 2 stock blocks I’m building. I can’t seem to find a mostly stock 2g around where I live. So I decided to build the engine and find a rolling chassis to put it in.
