So looking over the posts that are already on this... Nothing quite fits the bill. Or I can't add on to the posts there. I tried the crush washer on the oil return line... still leaks like a sob.... to add to that the oil pan drain plug is leaking as well. I believe it is the aluminum threads... Annoys me that I have a huge leak on a fresh built motor just because of a stupid oil pan. Anyone have any ideas how to fix these leaks?

Luke

Double up the gasket on the oil return and spray both with copper gasket spray, be sure to torque the nuts onto the studs to spec, too.

Are you using a copper crush washer on the drain plug?

I didn't try copper gasket sealant, Just rtv which didnt do anything for the seepage out of the threads. I did use a copper crush washer and I couldn't get it to seal properly. Than when I tried to get it a bit tighter it feels like it just "broke free"

Don't double the gasket, just use ultra-grey on both sides and let it cure COMPLETELY before exposing it to oil.

For the bolts that go into the pan, put some real small o-rings on them so that when you tighten the flange they act as a seal against the bolts.

For the drain pan, put some teflon paste thread sealer on it.

I use this method on this pan and found it to fix the leaks.

will the teflon paste not get into the pan? That seems a bit sketchy to me!

You only have to put it sparingly on the threads just below the crush washer, not slop it on.

A little goes a long way.

It's no different than using it on NPT oil pressure fittings

...and if it still leaks at the oil return, double the gasket. Sometimes the matting surface on those oil return lines isn't true so the extra gasket on there, with the copper spray, will seal any imperfection on either mating surface.

If that drain plug felt like it "broke free" after you tried tightening it even more than you may have stripped the threads, was there no torque spec provided with the pan?

negative ghost rider..... no torque spec.... I may end up just taking it off reaming the hole out and re-tapping the hole. New plug and no leak. Done maybe change it to AN lines from the turbo to the pan. That would fix that leak by changing the bung out and getting it nice and sealed.
