I'm seriously leaning towards taking the 2.0L out of commission and throwing a 2.3L into my next car. In the past, when I was running the 2.0L, I just wanted to make the most HP possible and run a number. Now...i'm leaning more towards building a very fun 700whp street car. The torque diff. between FP3 and FP2 cams in my 2.0L was night and day. I want that torque the instant boost hits like it did when I had the FP3's in the car. Power felt more linear and almost boring with the FP2's.
I now currently have a built 2.0L and a built 2.3L at the house. The cams in question are FP4's and FP4R's. I know the 4R's will work with both engines. The FP4's, probably not so much. I currently own both the FP4's and 4R's. I want to sell one of these sets of cams, but I have to make a choice in shortblock first.
My other options for heads is I have a fully built 1G head, ported out, with Kiggly beehives. I've also got a complete head from a 96 Hyundai Sonata. Basically, I believe it's a 2G head with 6 bolt head stud holes. It is also a 43cc head, so I'll gain a few CR points as well. I can swap the valvetrain over with no issues. I'm looking for faster throttle response, low end torque, and not having to run the car to to moon rpm wise to make the power.
My biggest question is basically cam choice, between the 4's and 4R's. I know I threw a lot more questions and scenarios in, since I was lookingfor overall build input. Last big of relevant info, is turbo choice is leaning towards the BW S366SX. 79/91 version, with possibly an .88 a/r open housing.
I believe the best build would be the 2.3L, with the Hyundai head. I just have no idea which cams would be best for my goals. Any input?
