I just stocked up on some factory filters, now I'm wondering if I got the right one. I went in, told them I had a 92 GSX and wanted the "smaller" filter because I was going to be installing a 3" dp and didn't want any fitment problems. Without even looking in the computer the guy goes in the back and grabs three MZ690072 filters. I figure he knows what he's doing so I pay for them and leave.

Is the MZ690072 filter the one I want, or should I go back tomorrow and get a different part number?

Once again, 92 GSX (6bolt), will be installing 3" dp soon. Thanks.

I don't have it in front of me but you can tell the difference by look.

If it is about 3in wide and 3in high it is the 1g/evo8 filter.

If it is about 2.5in wide and 3.5-4in high it is the 2G.

The bigger or the one with more volume is the 1g filter, but mitsu doesn't sell them anymore, but the evo filter is the same as the 1g filter. Some people thought this filter was why 2g's crankwalked because the 2g filter is smaller. I don't believe this though. It may flow more oil, but not enough to CW.

That is correct. They are ONLY selling the factory short filter now.

The only reason I wrote that is because maybe he feel into a shipment of "discontinued" filters. :thumb:

Yeah, this one is the skinny filter, so I guess I want to go ask for an EvoVIII filter instead. So long as it works and won't interfere with my 3" downpipe when I put it on, I'm happy. Anyone know the proper part number that I'm looking for??

Running the smaller 2g filter on a 1g is nothing new. You will be absolutely fine running the smaller filter. If you are really worried about running a smaller filter, then get a relocation kit and then run the bigger filter. But like I and others said, running the smaller filter isn't anything new, and you will be fine.

Okay, so the consensus is that the filter will work fine with my engine. I figured that much. I don't think mitsu. is dumb enough to produce a filter that won't work with the application.

If this filter will fit without interference with my 3" dp, then I'll be satisfied. I don't know if the evo filter is the same length, just larger diam, or different in both girth and length, but I was really trying to find out if there was a filter (such as the evo) that was BETTER to use, primarily for issues of fitment.

So here's another question, directed to those WITH 3" DOWNPIPES. What filter part number do YOU use? If it'll work with yours, it'll likely work with mine.

Thanks for the inputs.

Here is a pic of my 3" turboback with a 2G filter (tall, skinny)

I have to unbolt my DP to get it ON/OFF. I am in the process of doing a relocation for my filter.
