mitsu oil filter differences

i'm sure this has been answerd tons of times before, but i couldn't find it

anyways, ive got a mitsubishi oem filter with a part #MZ690072 but i also have another one that is #MZ690116

the latter is shorter and fatter. Can i use either one on my 2g without any problems? thanks guys.

Yes and yes. Some need the shorter filter for downpipe clearance.

I looked on Slowboys website and it says the shorter and fatter one is for a 1G. Is there any difference in the housings or thread patterns? And also, wouldn't the second being fatter than the first at the threads cause the filter to be too wide to screw into the housing?

They both fit the same. I run the 1G (shorter and fatter) to clear my Downpipe.

Do some not see the 1g as an upgrade to the 2g filters? Something about being massive and having more filtering element?

I use the 1G filter which by Mileguard numbers is a MO3950, and by Fram numbers a PH3950. I use them because it gives me a little more clearance on the bottom side of the motor, and I just dont like using the super skinny MO7317/PH7317 filters.
