Mishimoto Radiator Question

Ok so the car is a 97 Talon TSi, FWD AUTOMATIC...

I stopped by ExtremePsi earlier today to grab a new radiator because where my top hose connects, the plastic somehow snapped off but while I was there, I was told for the Mishimoto Radiator for the Automatic a trans cooler will be needed. So I just went to pepboys and spent $280 on an oem radiator which =

Is this true? Or could I have just got the Mishimoto and installed with no problems whatsoever? And save $50...

as far as i know my car is auto and the tranny cooler is on the driver side like where the intercooler is in the passenger side, and i dont think it has nothing to do with the radiator

So what gives? They told me I had to buy the trans cooler which was like another 80 bucks.
Im about to go return the OEM one. I dont get why the Mishimoto is 60 bucks cheaper AND better

I don't have an auto, but just look at your cars radiator(or better yet, the oem unit you purchased). If you see tranny lines going into the bottom or side of your stock radiator that will answer your question. The mishimoto radiator does not have a built in cooler and thus would require a separate cooler to be purchased.

As said just check your stock radiator or the one you just bought for transmission fluid lines. I dont know how the factory trans cooler is on dsm's, but a lot of cars have transmission coolers integrated into the radiator.

This would be the correct answer. Mishimoto has yet to put a cooler in the radiator. But most auto's come with an external cooler so you will have to check. And shop around next time for radiators. I spend 1/3 what you did on my OEM replacement one.

You can get an external tranny cooler at Advance or Vatozone for like 30$.

So what you need to run a mishimoto is the mishimoto manual transmission radiator and an external transmission cooler from whatever autoparts store. Its cheap and you dont need a giangtic core one. Just get the core that is about 4" x 9" by 1"
