Nothing of relevance in search, just looking for personal opinions on this, about to rebuild my throttle body and not sure if this is worth the premium. I am buying all the components from one of two vendors, one only sells the OEM seals and they sell the other components cheaper, but in the interest of stopping having to replacing stupid crap like this all the time to keep my boost leaks away, I am willing to spend more and get it from the Milspec vendor.

The real question I have...is it really better or just one of those gimmick things that sound good to justify more profits.

I'm using the Milspec shaft seals from STM. They work great and I have zero complaints. However, are they better then the OEM seals or worth the price? That I can't say.

I'm more concerned with longevity, most boost I will see is ~27 on e85 and ~23 on pump. I just have never had a throttle body that was not or did not develop a boost leak in this area quickly thereafter.

I've been told that some of the throttle bodies I've rebuilt have seen that much boost or more without any issues, even with a BLT up past 30 psi. These are using seals from Motion Industries.

Also, I believe you can get the Mil.Spec seals cheaper directly from them (~$18 shipped maybe?).

I will have to look around and see where else I can find them. But I am lazy, fat and worthless so I was hoping to just Paypal one place, get the parts and procrastinate 3 or 4 months on the rebuild.

It's not that I can't follow the gasket, I have arthritis from a "boxer's fracture" and one of my hands shakes (happens to be my writing hand) and I always over-port or things like that. In fact my hand started shaking when I had to fill out my form for Shep to rebuild my tranny, guy is probably wondering how many shapes of retarded I am.

I think I may just go OEM for now, time is running out to get this car ready for NEDSMs 16G event.

Hey you might want to check out this website: maxbore.com
Some guy that works for a shop called import auto pros referred me to it and he says they do some great work in rebuilding/porting out your stock throttle body.

I rebuilt my 1g N/T throttle body using the TB shaft seals from ExtremePSI and I BLT up to 35psi no problems. As far as longevity goes, I did the rebuild in May '10 and the TB is the last place I find boost leaks.

I don't suffer from shakes and I started shaking filling out my Shep tranny order form too, believe me, I don't think we were the only ones either. I'm eating Ramen noodles for the next two months so I can get my new transmission, how can you afford to get TB shaft seals? Richer.

:dsm:

I rob banks.

I can't afford any big parts right now with the transmission in Shep's loving hands and no quote yet from him, but I need to keep a momentum going to motivate me, even if it is small parts each week.

Tomorrow is going to be 51 degrees...so I think it is time to actually do something to the car.

I went OEM and doubt they're any less durable than the Mil.spec seals. At least I thought it was a revised OEM part, looks like the "aftermarket" one in the picture in the link above. Metal ring encased in rubber just seems like a better idea than something that looks so similar to the originals. Any of them should serve you well for years to come, it's surely taken a good amount of time for the originals to develop leaks. And besides, it's not all that difficult to replace them. I wound up fighting with the throttle plate more than anything else. The FIAV wasn't about to come off, but that doesn't matter.
