MIL after boost controller install

Hi,
This weekend i helped a friend of mine install a boost gauge and a manual boost controller. First time we started it the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Idle was steady as a rock and it was pulling good vacuum (19). I disconnected the boost control solenoid when I installed the manual BC, and was wondering if this was why the light came on?

Yea, if its a 2g than im told dont disconnect it and if a 1g i think you can get a way with it.
