Hi, like the title mentions, I am stuck between the two. I searched and for what I'm looking for I couldn't find. So here it goes.

As of now I have a genuine mhi 20g that I just purchased from someone on here and that was rebuilt by jus in sep. the turbo has low miles and I only put 16 on it due to ic couplers popping and tuning. I revolved my build around it and just put close to ten grand into the car within the last couple of months.

Right now I have a chance to do a strait trade for a 8 blade holset wh1c with a bolt on housing. Seller is being up front and tells me it has side to Side little in and out. He also tells me that doesn't really matter with holset turbos there were built to last?

Questions are: has anyone ever had this turbo bolted up to a dnp tubular manifold? (Holset)
....Would it support quicker and better spool than my mhi 20g?
....Would it outflow it by a lot?
....If they are around the same hp range would it be worth it to do the swap and probably start over on parts like manifold, intake, oil lines, the fab work to block water lines, etc.... Those of you with holstets can you please chime in and tell the story on how you installed it and what was needed and fabbed to make it work?
....If I have a stock 7 bolt and not going to push more boost than the block can handle would the holset even benefit me?
....in anyone's personal opinion would you do the trade knowing that you have my current set up to work with?
.... Can I use my oil lines off the mhi 20g since it has the bolt on housing?

The biggest thing to me is I did so much work to my car and haven't even had the chance to feel good about my work and to see what I have accomplished. Trust me when I say I have always wanted the holset turbo, but don't know if it would be worth it if it wasn't to just bolt right up when I got it. It would suck to do the trade then get it and it not fit, might need a re build, might have to buy new manifold to push it further away from the block etc....

If I'm posting this in the wrong place can someone please just tell me. I'm looking to get bashed on here just looking for some help. I'm really stuck right now and need some good opinions and personal advice.

Note: my mhi has 216 miles since re build and the holset was said to be never rebuilt and has side to side and some in and out.

He also tells me that doesn't really matter with holset turbos there were built to last?
What kind of bullshit statement is that? If the turbo has play, it needs rebuilt...simple as that. That's like offering an engine for sale which has 60psi on all four cylinders but saying "doesn't matter- these 4G63's are tough engines".

....If I have a stock 7 bolt and not going to push more boost than the block can handle would the holset even benefit me?
No. If you're going to run below 25psi you're better-off staying with what you have. You'll need oil lines, different intercooler couplers, and that H1C definitely needs rebuilt if it has in/out play. Count on spending another $300 or so if you decide to go with the Holset.

Thank you so much jus. I was thinking the same thing I just really wanted the turbo.

Plus I like the turbo I have which was re built by you and that is always a plus. I got a picture of the e mail you sent the guy I got it from. You put the hta center pice or something on it. Also your initials are on it. Do you remember this turbo? How much boost do you think I can safely run on the mhi you re built and your personal opinion on how long it should last me. If my memory serfs me correctly you re built it last September. If we shouldn't be talking off the subject then can you pm me please. I got questions on my turbo and the the holset in general and I know you can give me the answers I'm looking for.

Thanks again for your input. Also I found a re build kit for that turbo for 68.99. You think It would be worth it if I got it and had it re built by you? I was looking to push more than 25 sometimes not all the time. What would you recommend a pushing it boost limit on my set up? I want to make around 400-450whp or more if possible.

Yeah, but it had been used before you bought it....doesn't matter how many miles it has, a used turbo is a used turbo. I had a guy whose engine was taking a shit go through three rebuilt turbos in a little over a month. ;)

Something that concerns me is the slight amount of hooking on the inducer tips of your compressor wheel....I doubt I would have let the turbo leave my possession like that. Hooking normally means something foreign entered the inlet, or the wheel rubbed the housing.

Do you remember this turbo?
No offense, but I don't remember it at all. You know how many customer turbos I build in a given month? LOL

How much boost do you think I can safely run on the mhi you re built and your personal opinion on how long it should last me.
It depends on your setup, and I have no idea.

Rebuild what? The 20G? Only if it has play, I suppose.

1) You're probably not going to make anywhere near 450whp with a 20G on the stock internals. A number like 360-380whp at 25psi on pump fuel would be a little more realistic.

2) You should probably keep it at or below 25psi just to be on the safe side- otherwise...

I was in your shoes not too long ago, torn between a MHI 20G and the Holset series turbos. In the end I wound up going with an 7blade HX35 that I got from JusMX141. But then again my goals are 450awhp at minimum and I am going to be sporting a built bottom and top end and hoping to tune on the higher side of 30psi.

Justin is full of knowledge and he tends to speak quite honestly. If I were you I would lean towards the 20g(being on stock internals). It is a very fun street turbo that should get you close to ~380whp with the right work. In the end though its still all about having fun :)

An off-topic, but related subject that shouldn't require a new thread (not to mention this one is about finished)

Justin, do you have a diagram/table showing the MHI and Holset compressor/turbine wheel dimensions? I've been looking everywhere for them. The one on the VFAQ is decent, but doesn't list them all. Can you help with a source?
