Meth or bigger turbo?

ok well im having a little issue right now... im trying to decide rather to upgrade my turbo or get me a meth kit. heres the issue< right now im on a e316g at 25lbs at 37 lbs/min and im only seeing 11* of timing till 6.5k. now i know i can get a decent meth kit for around $300 and add a good amount of power, but i have a friend that is selling me a tdo5 20g with like 1k miles on it for $500. my question is would i be better of with the 20g with no meth, or keep my 16g and get a meth kit? thanks...

I would think the question you need to ask yourself is how much power do you want? The 20g is going to have different spool characteristics then your 16g so you need to determine if you'd rather have more power and sacrifice spool up time or stick with the 16g with the meth kit to maximize the amount of power available to you.

Personally, I would add the meth kit and see how if the extra power is enough. If it isn't, save up to get another turbo, and now you have a meth kit which will be put to a much better use on a larger turbo.

i think you just convinced me to do same...
i have a evo3 16g on a 2.3 stroker w/ smim and it will spike to whatever and fall imediatly to 10lbs
so i think im going meth over bigger turbo
 
You should be able to get a lot more than 299hp on a 16G. Get the meth injection, unless you have E85 available in your area -- switch to that. 400hp can be had with 272 cams & E85. I tuned a 2g with stock cams AND stock crappy SMIC to 321hp / 347torque.

Somethings wrong if your timing has to be that low.

well that hp num was at 20 psi, with a 2.45 60-80< im at 25 lbs now with a 2.02 60-80 so im pretty sure my tune is decently up to par. i want to get into the 1's as far as my 60-80's go:sneaky:

i would go e85 if it were readily available to me, so the corn fuel is out of the question.i think im going to end up going with meth and see my outcome.
 
You're already pushing near the limit on that EIII. You'll have to upgrade turbos sooner or later (that's only if you're like me and you constantly want a little more... a little more... a little more...). Besides, the meth kit is cheap compared to the turbo, you can always eat instant noodles for a week and buy it.
