Hey guys,
My mods are on my page. I have two problems. My 1st problem is i recently put in a Big 16g turbo into my 97 gs-t Spyder and I am getting what seems like a loss of noticeable power all around. I have not done a boost leak test yet. When i get on it i have littler power than with the stock turbo. I wont get over 5psi in 1st or 2nd. In 3rd i get about 12 at 4 or 4.5 and full boost in 4th and 5th. I was thinking maybe my wga arm was staying open? And my 2nd problem is I almost lose all power at about 4.5k rpms. I heard it could be from a boost leak? Please help driving me crazy. :banghead:

I boost leak tested it, I found a hose that wasn't s connected. So i fixed that and ran it for a bit, I still feel i should have more power than it has. I found out i do have an exhaust leak and am fixing that right now. Could that be my lack of power?

Did you do the BLT correctly? Make sure you fill the pipes up to 20 psi, or whatever or running and see how long it holds it for. If it loses pressure you have a leak, obviously. If it doesn't hold whatsoever you should be able to hear it. If not, use a soapy water solution and see where the pipes are bubbling.
And yes if the turbo isn't getting enough exhaust gas then it will spool slower.

Just do this, answer all questions and come back with ALL the results please:

1. Boost Leak Test to 20 psi with an Air Compressor
2. Do you have a tune?
3. Are you on stock 450cc injectors?
4. How much boost are you running?
5. I noticed no AFPR in your profile, do you have a logger to show AFR? You are probably running rich and overrunning your injectors, that could cause loss of power.
6. Do a Compression test while your at it if you can. But the above should give us plenty of information to solve your problem.

first off, don't run 16 psi with what you have...

exhaust leaks and wastegates not holding shut are two big problems that result in lack of spool and boost.
have you fixed your leak yet?

put a 14b on.
blt.
get the right supporting mods before you slap the 16g on.
actually put in the stock fuel pump rewire it since you dont have a fpr.
get a logger.

mbc
190 rewired or 255 rewired with fpr
logger
safc/link/evo 8 ecu something to tune with.
550 min injectors but 660 or 680 would give you room to tune with.
boost gauge
forget if its 20psi that you need headstuds at, cause it will stretch lift the head apart

think thats it something else chime in?

Double check your wastegate actuator arm and make sure the flapper is closing all the way. I'm having similar issues with my car and I suspect wg arm or exh leak. Also, get a safc2 or similar to tune with. You'll notice a huge improvement in power as you start to get out of the rich side of things. Keep us updated on progress :)

Parts you do not have that you NEED:

Fuel injectors
AFPR
safc
logger
WideBand

Those are a lot of parts man. Basically EVERYTHING to make a fuel system. Your running rich still? What did you pressurize the system to?

1. Boost Leak Test to 20 psi with an Air Compressor
2. I noticed no AFPR in your profile, do you have a logger to show AFR? You are probably running rich and overrunning your injectors causing them to just spray and spit out excess fuel, that could cause loss of power and bogging.

yea i am running rich, i smoke a little when i get on it. yea i need to get safc but i really can't afford it atm it is my next on list along with injectors. i pressurized to 15 psi in boost test if thats what you were asking

what you are doing is not only messing up your injectors but forcing your fuel pump and causing damage to your engine.

Oh and i don't have a safc

should of been first thing you should of bought instead of turbo.

Oh and I am boosting 16 psi

why would you be boosting that high on a stock set up? 12psi is the highest and still pushing it.

ok its lack or research and knowledge like this that give dsms bad rep... im goin to assume that you do have some sort of automotive knowledge and you understand that its not just ''slaping on'' a bigger turbo and go. like said before lower it to the most 12psi, fix your leaks and go do some research

Well i appreciate the help from ever one. Except for the last person who posted. I don't like the fact your going to bash on me because i ran out of money when I was working on my car. But I will look over what people have said and will keep you guys posted on it. Thank you. One curious question does any ones hose that is plugged into the back of the intake manifold ever randomly come off?

if you ran out of money thats fine. Why would you throw on half the parts you need and skrew up a engine which is more money then you have right now.

like i said before, get 14b. take out 255 and put in stock pump/rewire it. you'll probaly see more power with a 14b running right then a 16g running badly even at a higher psi.
