Hi all.
I have a question that I need an answer for.
About 1 weeks ago the engine of my car was rebuilt.
.20 over pistons was put in, so they rebore the block.
When we started the car, we saw a small leak from the oilpan, the car stayed running for about 30 minutes then I ride it home took another 30 minutes.
The next day took off the oilpan and when I was cleaning it, I saw in the bottom of the pan some sort of metal powder.
My question is, is that normal for a recently built engine?

Can you describe the metal better? After a rebuild its normal to have some...but not a lot of metal in the oil pan.

It's just like metal powder, not big pieces of metal.
You can barely see them, with some light you can see it

If there was a ton of shavings in your oil pan, I can just imagine your oil filter is filled with them..

After my rebuild, and 400 miles on it, I had no powder shimmery anything in the oil pan, just had little silver/copper flakes in the oil filter...Also my oil pan slid a little copper/gold flake out that was in the bottom, Its probably my cam bearings or turbo....Or the fact that my old motor was ran by the previous owner with a rod knock till it detonated, and those flakes could be in the OFH, oil pump and Turbo I re-used.

But yours sounds a little worse...Was the rod bearing plastigauged with the crank..in spec?? Also were the mains in spec??

you may be seing som of the moly lube break down and floating in your oil ( I hope)

but if the block crank, and head was not cleaned ( the oil galleys) toy may have issues fixing to show.
