so after 330 miles and 3 oil changes i developed a light rod knock. seems to be coming from cylinder 4. pulled engine today, dropped oil pan(what a bi*** btw). checked rod caps for play. none. wasnt expecting any but the oil that was left in the bottom was gold, and not in a good way. gold shavings everywhere. then after swishing it around i could see a pile of gold flakes. the machinist is warrantying the work so after i strip the block down im taking it to him tomorrow. heres a pic

im obviously not happy. the compression is 180 exactly on all 4 so i think the top end was done perfectly. must be a rod or main bearing. the tapping happens when revved or around 2500 to 3k rpm. and gets worse when up to operating temps. ive opened a few threads, sorry to reiterate. but now i have a pic atleast. tell me what yall think.
thanks

Most likely bearing material

Use the search bar, this pops up like 3 times a week. :banghead:

Seen that too many times, not good.
Looks like it's gonna be rebuild time :(

i seriously dont expect a full rebuild LOL. i expect him to grind crank, polish it and replace all rod and main bearings. also hot tank and flush oil journals definitely. the engine has 330 miles on it and the rod knock is very light, no way it took out a rod. i would be shocked. ive heard serious knock before. this is no "metal on metal" knock. heres hoping second times a charm for this machinist. just the parts and labor for the INTERNALS is very near 3000. i didnt cheap out anywhere. it couldve been a bad bearing from factory who knows.

anything i should tell him while im there? any advice? the guy does race engines all the time and im very surprised this happened.

I missed the part of 330 miles.
That's good the machine shop's standing behind it.
Still sux though :(

Same issue, same solution as every other "metal in the oil pan" thread we see on a weekly basis. Rod or main bearing, possibly oil pump.

Turbo's full of metal, so is your oil cooler. Basically anything that received oil will need removed, disassembled, and thoroughly cleaned or replaced.

Sorry about your loss, but someone obviously didn't do their part in checking bearing tolerances. Doesn't mean we need another thread like this open.
