go to a parts store and get the gray rtv. DO NOT USE A GASKET. I had to replace the silicone on my oil pan couple months back. Make sure to go to the inside of the bolt holes when you do it. Let it sit for 30 mins than put it on and and get the bolts finger tight. Come back an hour later and tighten them snug dont overtighten. Thats how i did it and it hasnt leaked on me. Good luck

Honestly man, if you going to have the oil pan off anyway, do it right and replace the gasket.. A good gasket will not leak as long as your pan is snug all around, meaning as long as you dont have missing or stripped bolts/holes. Make sure any old gasket/silicone is off the surface of the pan and block and that both are clean.

If I were you I would go to a Mitsubishi dealership and buy the actual rtv they use. It's kind of pricey but its the best.

Our oil pans don't come with gaskets. Mitsubishi uses sealant only. For the OP, I use Permatex: The Right Stuff. Doesn't leak at all when applied correctly.

Mitsu factory service manual procedure for oil pan replacement after removal is: Scrape clean all gasket surfaces of cylinder block and oil pan, gasket surfaces must be free from oil and dirt, apply specified sealant around gasket surfaces as specified in illustration mitsubishi genuine part no. MD997110 or equivalent (Gray RTV), assemble oil pan to cylinder block within 15 minutes of applying sealant, wait at least 30 minutes before starting engine.

So technically if he were to "do it right and replace the gasket" it would would be the above procedure that does not involve the paper gasket included in most rebuild kits. I personally just use the RTV and it works great.

Use "the right stuff"
Its this gasket maker that works like a champ, you'll never have a leak.
