i remembered seeing a type of grill somewhere that wasn't the traditional "wire mesh". It was more of a circular pattern cut really close together on some sheet metal. It's hard to explain, but anyone know what i'm talking about and where to get it?

I believe your looking for the 'Grillecraft sport grills' .....yea there nice :thumb: ...i have them and look good, easy to install.....they have them all sorts of places. try or there site.

Back when I had mine installed, this was the home depot gutter guard stuff. At one point there was a guy selling pre-cut pieces on ebay who was using the second photo in his ads.

how do you install it?

exactly! thx very much jaxon, quicksilver & DSMboost! thx for your help & pics, but how did each of u fasten the screen to your car? (& redturbo too)

maviskey, can you explain exactly how u fastened yours please? i have no desired to use zipties, epoxy or gutter gaurd clips tho. :p

heh, is it possible to get a view from behind the bumper at all?? I doubt it because you most likely have it installed, but just incase..

I didnt use any zip ties or fasteners i just used these little teeny screws i put in about every 2-3 inches away from eachother, you can see them at all, i had to pre-drill each little whole too. first i wrapped the mesh around each whole and bent it around the edges. i cut the mesh into 3 different pieces, (1 for big middle piece) (2 for little side ones). :dsm:

i used real small black zipties and drilled holes on the sides top and bottom of the holes and wrapped them through the metal...you can hardly see them. the mesh i used is raw metal so i tried painting it but it would rust through so i used some white truck bed sprayliner in a can and it has held up great and won't rock chip or bend

Anyone know where I could find a mesh kit for a 97 style bumper, I found a kit on modacar.com but it's like 160 bucks I thought that was rediculous but is that what I'm gunna be looking at?

Ok i want to do the gutter guard thing for my front bumper, but alas the gutter guard that i saw at home depot was too thin, as in not wide enough.. it wouldn't have filled the front of the 97' bumper up. :( Soo if someone could point me to a place where i could buy it online, only thicker.. it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

yea deffinatly done use gutter guard, i mean it might work but i think it looks cheap and is a waste of money. try to find a metal working shop or a place that makes metal sheets out of aluminum, thats your best bet. there is a shop close to where i live called Christians Aluminum and Metals. i use to go down there and just take their scraps and they would let me have them for nothing. and the scraps where big, like 10x10 sheets. i got one sheet and had enough to fill up a whole blitz front number (when i had my Neon). just try to find a metal shop somewhere around you.

I have a 90 talon tsi, so does anyone know if puting mesh in the front stock bumper looks any good? i'm thinking of trying it, to use for the meantime, as i am waiting for a body kit to come in the future. if anyone has any pics or opinions that would be great. im lowering the car 2" so it will kinda look good im hoping
