i just tried putting on a 3" megan racing down pipe on my car but it wouldnt fit. i have a 95 AWD TSi with a 3"thermal catback exhaust. was the pipe supposed to come with adapters?...shouldnt it just bolt right on?

How didn't it fit? Did the flanges not align properly? There was an old version of the MR downpipe that had the flange angled incorrectly so it couldn't bolt up.

give it to me let me try it on my car.:D

I think I read somewhere that it fits on to a evo 3 o2 is that where the problem is or it just won't line up.

It depends if both parts were designed to replace stock components exactly. When you start mixing and matching aftermarket components you can run into these kinds of problems. It should bolt up fairly easily but you might have to do alittle custom work to make it fit. I know my Megan downpipe had to be welded onto the rest of the exhaust.

Does the Thermal neck down to fit onto the stock cat?

The MR downpipe is designed to fit onto a 3" catback. If the Thermal necks down it's not 3" anymore.

Are you willing to take the pieces off the car and have stuff welded? You could weld a new flange on the Thermal with a bit of 3" piping, or you could get a vband clamp and have that welded in.

Then my suggestion would be the vband clamp. They can be pricey (anywhere from $25 to $75) but they come off quick for easy downpipe removal. I accidentally bought an old MR downpipe with the incorrectly angled flange so I'm going to weld a vband on it too to take care of the problem. You will have to have the old flanges cut off and the vband flanges welded in place of them. You will also need a small section of 3" tubing to fill the small gap you're going to have from where the Thermal used to neck down.

Get the flanges and extra piping (if needed) and do all of cutting and fitment yourself and take just the exhaust sections and pieces to someone who can weld stainless, then ask them to weld it. Tell them it's for a racecar if they seem to care about emissions laws. Make sure you've marked the parts so you can have them spot weld the parts in the correct location without it being on the car. The rubber hangers have enough give to take up some slack if things aren't perfect, but you still want them close. That way, they can't use emissions as an excuse.

I have a 2-3/8"-to-3" polished SS adapter that's 2.5" long that I could sell you pretty cheaply if you need it; it came with my turboback for folks wanting to just use the catback sections. Flanges are almost 3/8" thick.

That is a great idea. I think this is what i'm going to do. I have a 3" custom exhaust and it would not bolt up. Beware of some flanges. A 3" 2-bolt flange with 4 3/16 spacing will not bolt up correctly. It is possible to have a 2 1/2 universal 2-bolt flange welded up and then you can use a dremel to match the flange to exhaust opening. However, I believe the v-band solution would work best. PR sells these for $55.00 shipped.:talon:
