megan racing catback does not fit

Ive had this catback that came with the car, never really checked out everything untill I finally started putting it together under the car, but its the 2 center (short)peices they give you in the kit, since the flanges are at an angle. I guess you also have to have their downpipe, but mines just an ebay 3". I guess some welding could be done, but I dont know how / dont have the equipment and the everyone around town wants atleast $100.

Was just wanting some opinions on what the cheapest option is for having a catback for the 3" downpipe, should I get the welding done, or sell my catback, never used and find something else?

I will never buy an exhaust system whole again after having an exhaust shop fab me a press-bent 3" turboback for $150. Slap on a muffler and a $30 bullet muffler inline, and it's an exhaust. I didn't even have to order any parts this was all available locally and the bullet is optional.

I highly doubt mandrel bent gives you anything more than a few more HP compared to press under 400whp. Honestly, it's just an exhaust, the pipe diameter, # of bends, and the angle of the bends are much more important than the relative quality of the bends. So half the price and only a few hours shopping and waiting for 98% of the performance.

True, but AWD exhausts can be made relatively straight with only a few bends

No idea why yours is not fitting.

You have pictures of this exhaust? We installed a Megan 3 inch on a PR downpipe with no issues. You sure you have the right downpipe and exhaust combination and that neither of them are for a GST?

I have a 3in megan cat delete DP and a regular ebay catback, mine bolted right up no problems. Therefore I would assume the opposite, in your case, should work the same way. Maybe try posting some pics that may help.

Sorry for the late reply everyone, didnt have a good camera and just got back from vacation in Ireland. As mentioned earlier, this is a regular ebay 3"downpipe which I just measured is roughly 4.5 feet long, (is this a long downpipe?) and the megan racing catback is roughly 7.5 feet long minus the center peice. Here are some pics:

This is the weird center peice that they give you 2 of, 1 for bolting on to the stock cat, the other for aftermarket, this being the aftermarket. The flanges are not inline and are angled.

Both exhaust peices are confirmed and deffinatley for an AWD model not FWD.

It's deff an awd exhaust and dp, so you are correct on that. My buddy has a thermal cb on his gsx and the eBay dp I ordered for him didn't fit either. It was about 4-5inches to long and the flange wasn't turned right. What we ended up doing was cutting a section out on the dp and welding it where it is suppose to go, and it worked fine after that.

The dp also looks like a cat delete dp so you shouldn't need the test pipe in the first pic.

I think the exhaust ended up going under the car to much without the center peice, as far as I could tell it looked like the piece needed to be there, but just with the flanges strait. Would it be a bad idea to just sell the megan racing catback and find a new one. I personally feel $100 for the welding job is too much.

I don't understand how anyone else has got this catback on with this kind of downpipe...not like I didnt read around alot before buying stuff I just never saw anyone mentioning the differences between 3" ebay downpipes, just always that FWD is different than AWD.

The flange angle is the only problem? Just pickup a exhaust band clamp, cut the down pipe so you re able to rotate it to the correct angle and clamp it together with the band clamp.

yeah it's the only issue that I can see. I spent like an hour with my friend under the car and its the different angles. If they were strait I'm postive it'd just bolt on.

never heard of an exhaust band clamp, is it something you can find from the car parts stores? I was sure that if I made a cut, that welding would have to be done. How can a clamp hold back the exhaust gases? I deffinatley wouldn't want a leak at the center piece cause my wideband is going in the rear 02 spot.

hopefully I can use my bandsaw to make the cut, it cuts all kind of steel but never cut anything stainless I think.

They make band clamps that are meant to seal 2 butted pipes.

You may be able to find something similar at a local auto parts store.

I had this exact problem with my 2G AWD megan catback. Wish I never ordered the thing. The fittment was horrible from the start, I posted pics in this thread:

It was chopped and welded to make it fit, im still not happy with the fit, it still hangs down quite a bit while still getting over the speed bumps. Seems like the megan cats are hit and miss. Mine missed.
