Just trying to figure out if crower valve springs are a must have, i would like to use stock springs with stock retainers if i could. Camshafts that will be used are hks 272's or equivelent. Basically how high do u need to rev to in a 4g63 to make around 600whp?

thankyou

Valve springs are a cheap, easy mod to do relative to what it took to get to 600 hp. Why not just upgrade? It's not worth floating a valve straight into a piston.

But to directly answer your question, I wouldn't spin over 7,000 rpm with stock springs. If you can get to 600 hp under 7,000 rpm then I guess technically you could do it with stock springs. I still say you'd get a more accurate valve closure with better springs.

stock valve springs are good for around 8500 rpms max, 8000 all day is no problem. I am not sure when float begins but I know bending valves is not an issue at 8500 on hks 272 cams. You really do not need springs to make 600 hp. Its all about your set up and how you plan to make your power. It took 10500 rpm to slightly bend my valves with stock springs and stock retainers with hks 272 cams.

If you don't have the money for upgraded springs and retainers than you don't have the money for 600whp. Things will break, I promise you. The factory springs would probably work just fine, but running an agressive camshaft like the HKS 272 I know I wanted a little insurance on my investment.

I doubt you could do it with the 2.0, but I made 565whp @ 6700rpm on my 2.4. I've ran the engine as high as 8800 but I can tell you from track time that it runs the fastest if I shift by 7k.

All the big HP numbers are in the high RPM ranges. 7500-9000 or 10,000 RPM. You can make around 450-500WHP around 7000 RPM with a good setup and tune. Look at John Sheppard, he shifts at 9500-10000 rpm OMG
