Ok so nothing like being a complete noob. My buddy just put a manual boost controller on my stock 4g63T. At higher RPM at higer boost it fuel cuts, which i know i need to put bigger injectors or a bigger fuel pump. But is running 15 pounds on my poor little 14b too much?? Please give me some pointer/advice on what precautions i should take to not fry my poor baby, after all i am in debt with it for three years, so i can't afford to blow anything up just yet.:) Thanks!

I would get a fuel pump before I turn it up anymore than what it is right know. I ran 17psi on my old gst with just a 190 fuel pump, but I did have a fuel pump. I would recomend buying a 190 rewire it and leave it at 15psi for awhile til you tune it and have more upgrades.

first get a logger, so you can see what is going on. Get a aftermarket boost guage. I ran 15psi on my 2G but that is on a T2mall. I would upgrade the exhaust, port the O2 housing and get a FMIC if you going to stay at 15psi. (while your porting, port the turbo and exhaust manifold as well. Touch your stock SMIC after running the car hard one day. On my 2G it would be hot I mean really hot. Not good. If I were you I would lower the boost to 11-13 psi to be on the save side till you upgrade or get sopporting mods.

Fuel Cut has nothing to do with Fuel (or lack there of)

To corroborate Tyler's statement:

Mark Warner said:
Fuel Cut: a safety system that many OEM electronic control units (ECUs) used to temporarily reduce power production. When an ECU determines that an engine is in an unsafe condition (e.g., revving too high, or inducting too much air), a "fuel cut" command is generated that turns off fuel flow to the engine. Fuel is restored after the ECU determines that the engine has reverted to a safe operating condition.

thanks a lot guys.. i am gonna take the boost controller off completely until i can afford some more upgrades.:thumb:

Good for you man... this is one of the most responsible/logical responses I've seen on here.
So often you see the "but what if I..." or "can't I just do... for now" questions about raising boost.
Way to be smart about modding your car the correct way.... even though you could leave the controller in, just keep the boost at normal level.

Yeah been there done that, atleast turn it down to 15 and below. 14b is only good on the stock side mount intercooler till 18psi. But i did 25psi oh it was so much fun till a rubber peice on the intake hose got sucked in. I drove around for 1 month at 25 it was fun but definitly get some supporting mods on their. Cause hitting fuel cut is not fun.

Looking at your mod list and hearing you say this makes me cry for you motor. Your lucky it still works.

Yep funny y'all ask. These motors can handle them they are a good foundation for boost but they have limitations. A month into it of runnig this the rubber gaskit that goes on the outside of the compreesor wheel and the intake tube is like a rubber gaskit. I sucked it in and at 23-25 i think that was it and the turbo ate it, i have to post a pic up cause the exhaust wheel broke off due to the force of the rubber stoping the compresser wheel at like 100,000 revolutions.

Ithink it would have went a week or so but i could tell the piston ring were begining to fail.

I will make a thread with a pic and call it my detroyed turbo, later today.

To finish answering the main first question is you will need arp headstuds a metal head gaskit or a cosmetic one wil be fine. max stock boost is 14-16 some can do 16 others 14 depends on the condition of the car. Max boost on a stock side mount not to exceed 18, cause a heat soaked intercooler (it is the primary heat exchanger for the turbo's hot air to cool) will destroy a motor.
Don't do more than 21 psi on a 14b, sure you can do a lil higher but if your working it that hard just shell out 450 for an 16g.

But i totaled it beginning of november, i am looking for another now.

How were you not getting fuel cut on a stock car with 25 lbs boost? What was your knock count and timing? I maxed out my 14b last year, and was able to run 23 lbs on pump without getting crazy knock, but that was with a front mount, 550's, 2g mas and a 190. Its not the hot air from the turbo that will destroy a motor, it's the knock that goes along with that hot air.

I should have said all but the fuel pump/injectors, but they were at at 120+ peak efficency, why a few broke and leaked.
1. Homemade race gas. Its on this site look for it. Same with water injection, mist kit.
2. I was getting fuel cut at 6500ish in third and all of 4th,5th if i kept the boost over 20.
3. Hot air makes the car knock as the air heats the fuel and can cause predetionation. And you said it yourself plus you can have knock due to crappy tune or fuel not just cause the air temps.

I running 18psi with a Dejon super big SMIC and piping, 255lph pump and 2.5 inch exhaust with no problems. I think max ill go is 20psi. :talon:

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate that, I really do. It is nice to have people think that i am doing things on my car correctly. Even moreso knowing that i still am a noob;) . Again thanks for all the insight so far:) :thumb:
