I am lookintg to do a complete rebuild on my motor i don't want to get ripped off or loose money doing it. i found a master engine kit at ron's precision machine for a little ove 1200$. the kit comes with Pistons, wrist pins, rings, main bearings, rod bearings, thrust washers (if applicable), jack shaft bearings (if applicable), cam bearings (if applicable), camshaft(s), lifters (if applicable), freeze plugs, gasket set, complete timing kit, and oil pump.standard size or oversized pistons and std. size or oversize main & rod bearings and the cost of the kit is the same price. I called and talked to somebody and found that out for sure. For a lttle over 600$ the kit stays same except u don't get the camshafts, lifters, and timeing kit. if anybody knows wether this is a good deal or anywhere else i could find a better kit i'ld really like to know. 1990 tsi FWD

All rotors are going to rust if they sit. They are made of un coated steel. I've installed literally 100's of brake best and wagner rotors. They are fine. Also power has nothing to do with needing good brakes. IT's all about being able to slow down. You can go 140+ in a stock car.

i knew about 140+ fastest i took mine up too was 115 and shut it down with plenty more to go ### i didnt want that ticket haha. mine started getting coveredin rust after a month and i was driving it every day. plus they make a loud noise everytime i touch brakes in reverse. only in reverse. ive read rotors in zinc oxide or somthing like that don't rust or wear as fast though. but i will look into those calipers for sure. do they need to be an exp brand or can i just go to autozone and say i need callipers for a 93 talon tsi?

and do i need to replace front and back calipers with dual pistons or did they just come fronts like this?

The rear calipers are all single piston and quite expensive. yea 93-94 tsi or eclipse should net you dual piston caliper fronts. Make sure you check that they have 2 pistons before buying them though, the webpage still lists both types as working. I get most of my OE brake stuff from nextdayautoparts.com

is the caliper exchange easy as in do i only need to diconnect old and connect new calipers then bleed? or is there a lot more to it? never changed calipers before. and what are some decent slotted rotors that are not real expensive. can you buy decent ones for less than a hundred a set? Oh yeah and is it inadvisable to buy calipers at a salvage yard or pull apart or used from an indvidual? I'm pretty sure i know the answer to this one

autozone sales them but only for the awd's mine is fwd would i have to make modifications to be able to use them? he said they're significantly bigger than the single piston calipers.

They should bolt right up, no problems. 92 talons use the same knuckles but larger rotors and calipers.

You need to get a set of 92-99 rotors to match the 2 piston calipers, and a set of pads for the larger caliper

note: AWD 90 did not come with 2 piston calipers, they are listed for 92-99 awd eclipse.

yea i know i asked for 93 or 94 callipers they cost about 54$ a piece. as long as i or my dad can do it and its an easy switch i'm goin to buy them. Is there any company that makes a decent slotted rotor for these calipers for 120$ or less a set?

Standard NGK plugs(BPR6 I think) or standard copper core plugs. Standard wires will be fine for you unless you can also get some magnecors, NGKs, or something of the sort.
i cant find the standard ngk plugs at autozone they have the ix iridium ones and ngk platinum. they do have autolite copper cores. i am fixin to do some performance upgrades like 3" exhaust headers and fmic. I am also going to have my car retuned. my car already has aftermarket gauges, boost tuner and maf converter and tuner. should i look for standard ngk plugs or go with the iridium ones?

i found the standard copper ngk and the v-power copper ngk's

when doing timing should i replace cam gears or just pullys and tensioner?

I'm picking up my timing belt kit today it's the standard gates brand comes with both belts and 3 pulley's. Is there anything else seperate from that i need to replace?

no i mean tied into the timeing setup like the water pump. . my oil pump is working fine. but say it started to go out in 5 months and i needed to replace it. I could just drop the oil pan right wouldnt have to mess with the timing belts?

No, the oil pump is driven by the timing belt while the water pump is driven by the accesory belts. The oil pump is also in the front case of the engine so it's not as if it can be pulled and replaced on it's own. The entire "front" of the motor must be removed.

on the calipers you also need the mounting bracket for the caliper as there different sizes, the new rotors will never fit on the car under the old caliper mounting bracket...

and as far as your turbo goes, a 14b turbo can go 11's in the 1/4 mile, so having a 14b is no reason not to upgrade your brakes. putting bigger brakes on your car is for stopping fast for cornering and like someone else mentioned before avoiding the dear....

if your going to be pulling the "front" of the motor you might as well order yourself a OEM balance shaft removal kit and remove that belt and those two 5 pound shafts and free up some extra power in the motor. also find the thread on here about porting your OIL FILTER HOUSING and do that as well. very big change in the car.

So should the oil pump be replaced everytime u change the timing belt?

I was told when i bought the car you could only get up to 14 psi with it. I was doing some reading though and it said this turbo was capable of pushing 21psi. Ive got about 7-800$ to spend on performance. I was going to do 3" turboback straght pipe no cat with a Magnaflow muffler(already own muffler). and an FMIC, and new manifold. Fuel pump and AFPR if possible. So what it comes down to really would be upgrade calipers or Fuel pump. It's my dd but i will run it at the strip a couple times this year. First race i'll line up mith my neighbors truck an 02 silverado. I want to win haha.
