ok i was looking under the drivetrain tech part of the forum and i have a noob question after looking at jacktransmission s youtube seminar of adjusting the clutch componets

he states that to test to see if the clutch is dragging when disengaging with the clutch pedal to the floor ( ie. the masters or slave isnt working or adjusted right)
he says to go to a flat parking lot and put the car in first gear with the clutch in and rev the car to 7K rmps -- he said if the car moves forward at all there is drag and something needs to be adjusted

i just went and did that and i have no movement what so ever so thats a good thing

heres my question -- my pedal is real squeshy and weak and when i push it down i start to get resistence about 3 inches down -- the engagement point is nice and high and its a smooth engagement -- i have no problems with that

jacks video said there shouldnt be any free play at the top of the pedal -- ive got about an 1 and a half up there -- i can take my hand and move it to the floor about 1.5 inches before im met with any resistence

do i need to adjust this to feel firm at the top of the pedal?????????? -- even though im not dragging the clutch????? and everythings working minus the fact that i cant hold more then 8 pounds of boost in the taller gears without slipping - ( been told my clutch is dying thus why i ordered the act2100 and clutch disk )

im getting an act2100 with street disk i just want to make sure my clutch hydrolic system is fine thats why im asking

thanks for the input in advance:thumb:

Yeah, you should only push down a small amount before being met with resistance. Sounds like you just need to adjust your pedal inside a little bit to reduce that freeplay.

to me it sounds like your clutch it shot.
if your not getting any resistance until 3 inches then its soft your clutch isn't dragging. i would put the new clutch in and re-adjust the master once the new clutch is in. your on the right track
usually if your having hydraulic issues there is fluid leaking externally.
ex your carpet under your master is wet with fluid or your slave cylinder is shooting fluid out or soaked and leaking out. also check the lines in between but if the fluid level hasn't changed then your most likely ok.

ya the clutch is shot, ill be getting the new one installed here eventually,,,, do you think i should just leave it alone untill i get that new clutch and pp installed and then adjust if need be

would i benifit by adjusting it now?

well here is my advice from personal experience, with stock clutches and this was a doozey which took a month to figure out, this was after replacing everything clutch related, master, slave, new lines. new press plate throw out bearing, release fork, even the stud it pivots on, tried adjusting my master cylinder. after replacing it and the slave, tried using a longer pin with the slave, and had the trans in and out for a month before I finally figured out the prob on a whim, last resort was the entire clutch pedal/brake assembly, turns out there is a bushing inside the rod that supports the pedals themselves that malfunctioned. I tried everything from shimming the fork stud to using longer pins in the slave, had the master fully adjusted out, even shimmed the pressure plate :which worked but would slip at higher rpms, my inital problem was not being able to shift when the car was running, no matter how far I could push the pedal. I could drive in one gear, but then again there was some clutch drag, but I went the the junk yard and picked up a new pedal assembley. Installed and adjusted it. and like frickin magic, it worked perfect. so if these symptoms ever occur for any of you fellows try the easy adjustments, and if they fail, I highly suggest the pedal assembly. this drove me crazy for a month,, Id hate to see anyone else suffer the same BS
