Here's a not so quick list of maintenance that I've performed so far in the last 1000 miles or so.
-timing belt and tensioner
-balance shaft belt and tensioner
-w/p & alternator belt
-ac belt
-ngk wires & plugs (6s)
-valve cover gasket
-tube seals
-crankshaft damper
-rebuilt throttle body
-all new vac lines
-all new coolant lines
-clutch slave
-clutch master
-s.s. braided clutch line
-s.s. braided turbo feed line
-intermediate shaft seal
-upper, lower, lateral control arms
-ball joints
-inner , outer tie rod ends
-driver's side front axle
-new oil dipstick............

That's about it. The car currently has 71k. Everything seems to be in order other than a small problem or two. Is there is anything that I may have missed or should do by this mileage? I'll try to post up a few pics of how she sits now. She's not to pretty.

Looks good, depends on what hasnt been done and your future goals. Basics for most cars on the road drivetrain, engine, gaskets suspension, and so on.

true but if you r just sticking to maintemance right now i would say flush the radiator rly good or just get an aluminum one from ebay or something also dont forget about the drive line fluids tranny transfer case and the rear end also its about time the change your struts on your suspention

Missing...
Check brake fluid
Check brakes
Check radiator fluid
Change wiper blade ready for snow or rain... rain here in cali.
Check windshield fluid
Since it's awd and I'm fwd. I guess your awd bolts and fluid.
After that you look %100 solid.
PEACE OF MIND IS PRICELESS!

I have a good idea of what i'm trying to achieve. I'm pretty much decided on the drivetrain and suspension. Transmission, and transfer case will be rebuilt to withstand whatever I'll throw at it. As far as head goes, dual springs and retainers with some kelford 272's. The things that I'm still figuring out are the block, clutch, turbo set up, and fuel system. I'm not quite sure which way I want to go yet.

Thanks everyone, I'll have to update my profile. I've done a few more things that I didn't mention as this was geared towards maintenance. Any sensors, or anything electrical that I'm forgetting?

check all your bushings... sub frames, rear diff, front suspension, etc...

I've found about 4 bad bushings, one of which could have led to some bad joo joo (control arm ball joint).

other than that, start flushing fluid's, radiator, fuel, oil, tranny, xfer case, brake, clutch, etc.

Did you replace the idlers when you did your timing job?

Nice looking 2G. That blue is my favorite color that was available on DSM's.

Just did a compression test and I got 178 to 180 across the board. Is this good?

I already got the front end done, the rear seems pretty solid. All four wheel bearings will be done as soon as I receive them.

I replaced everything. Thanks, the blue is also my favorite. I'm going to get her repainted in the spring. I'm keeping the original color scheme.

on your list . did you do w/p belt or the pump it self. if u didnt should have done it with t belt job

Sure did

It might have been your friend's car. Did they get rid of it with around 63k? I bought it in Wind Gap. It was bone stock. Thanks anyways, Maintenance on any car is key...

and your compression check is awesome dude actually really good for a car this old

I thought it was good. Reassurance it good though. Thanks

I'd go with a Shep Stage 3 Transmission. I've had nothing but good things to say about my shep trany. I have over 15k on it with no issues and around 450+AWHP.

I'd really like to go with Shep. I'm leaning towards Dogbox's stage 3 though. It fits my budget better. TRE is in the middle on pricing. If I do go with Shep, it'll just take me a few extra weeks.

remember to change ## oil and oil filter too, and try to get the original one .

This has been done several times. I'm very meticulous with oil changes.

Do fuel filter change, replace any worn gaskets, clean your air filter, do a boost leak test, check your tire pressure and inflate as necessary.

I am going with STM's fuel tank to rail kit (includes fuel lab filter) and their return kit. Still checking everything out as far as gaskets. Filter gets cleaned every oil change. Tire pressure- Check.

when i bought mine my smic was filthy i cleaned it also

I did this when I rebuilt my throttle body. Mine was cruddy as hell. Once I cleaned it, I found a small crack. I've since then installed a PR FMIC and piping.

Replace PCV valve, clean your MAF.

Thanks. I just ordered the PCV. What is safe to use for the MAF? I don't want to damage it. Eventually I'm going to an Evo MAF, not sooner than I need to.

Thanks everyone. I'm sure I'll have more questions the further I get into my build. I appreciate all of the insight. I'll get some more pics up when I get time.

You can use this to clean your MAF.

You should be able to find it at any auto parts store. Just take your MAF off the car and spray that stuff all in the inside, wait a minute or two for it to dry (it will dry pretty fast), then put it back on the car. I've done it to my car twice and also to my sister's Tsi once. You might not gain 4-10 whp like it says on the can, but it definitely won't hurt!

Great list of maintenance. Just build her right. Keep the rice in the kitchen.

I keep it clean:thumb:

Thanks, I'll pick up a can.

Looks good, dont forget to give it a good detail as well. Have to keep that clear coat intact and protected on the black painted roof. I suggest Meguiars 3 step. Long process but definitely worht it. And your ride will look better too:thumb:

The paint is in pretty bad shape. I'll address that when I have her gutted. I want to do it right once. Right now she's filthy. I'll look into the Meguiar's 3 step. Thanks
