My friend installed a 6bolt swap and 16g into my 96 Eclipse. It runs and drives good. BUT I looked over everything and noticed It didn't have a main girdle. Problem? :confused::ohdamn:

What purpose does it serve?

A girdle basically "strengthens" the bottom end. Between the 6 and 7 bolts, the 7 bolt is the only one to have a full girdle. Ironically the 6 bolt is considered the stronger of the two.

A Kiggly main, like the one shown in the picture you posted, is great for reinforcing the integrity of the bottom end. It helps distribute load across the mains along the crank which assists with allowing all units attached carrying the load evenly instead of one by one. Also, it acts in some ways like an oil scraper, keeping a good bit of oil off of the rotating assembly. This has come into discussion, of course due to the fact that girdles do no sit as close to the rotating assembly as an actual crank scraper.
