I recently bought a stage 3 magnus head from someone but they didn't have a recipt.
NOW there is work done to this head you can clearly see.

Is there a way to tell to if this is actually a magnus head?

If they got it from magnus they should have a reciept.Or you can call magnus with the other owners name and see if they have this guy on record.

Or next time, dont buy a aftermarket head with no receipt

Most shops will stamp the head in some way or form.

Look it over close, also post some pics of it.

well after talking to magus I was lucky enough to score a magnus head stage 3 for 1600$ from a guy.

some pictures :)

Is it missing the cam journal caps in addition to all the valves and internals? In addition to the porting the value of a stage 3 Magnus head is in all the components that are missing from the pics. Also, if it bent some valves the guides could also be trashed. Before putting it on I would have a machine shop assess what needs to be done (if the caps are missing it's going to cost you a pretty penny to inline bore the caps and the journals). I seriously hope you got a good deal though.

Sure, its hogged out, but may I ask why the head did not include valves, springs, lifters rockers or cams? I mean, for 1600.00, the valves and springs should at least be on that thing, used or no. Now youre going to want to do new guides, valves, valve job etc.

I do hope you did get the cam caps, as Serviceguy pointed out. With out the cam caps, or spending another $150-$300 having the head lined bored you have a great door stop.

Yes the casting has bronze guides. But I am not seeing $1600 with what you have shown pics of. I hate to say it, but by the time you buy the same valvetrain that Magnus installs, plus the machine work needed to bring it to "NEW" status, you are going to be close to just buying one right from Magnus.

Unless you have a box of parts not in the pic, containing, Cam caps and bolts, valves, springs, retainers, valve locks, spring seats and new seals.

jezz just because I don't share all the 1,600$ porn doesn't mean I didn't get it ;)

It went to the machine shop today and everything checked out :) I'll post more when i pick it back up after the weekend

oh and that 1600$ incluede hks 272 cams and aem gears

'The porting does not look very good at all. Do you have pics of the exhaust side? Just hogging out ports prob. does more harm than good. Its about flow and velocity.

A mangnus stage 3 Is CNC ported, 40 CFM increase on the intake, and 50 CFM on the exhaust.

It may have been hand blended afterwards.

But Magnus does not state they hand blend.

It's ported very nice. I have confirmed that this was a magnus. I was asking as it hard to get ahold of marco or phil sometimes.

i'll post pictures onces it's cleaned up
