I saw a good deal on magnecor ignition cables for $77 on stm that includes 4 spark plugs for free but im wondering are these cables any good? or should i go with somethin else? is it true its not good to upgrade to bigger wires if your running stock ignition parts?

should i just get ngk me64 wires or i can use me77?

I used to run the Accel Thundersport wires, switched to Magnecore and then back to Accel. IMO the motor runs smoother with the Accel's and I have never had any problems with them. Plus, they are cheaper and fit better (lengthwise).

ive had the same magnecores on my first gen since i bought it in 2003. good wires only thing thats still on it thats from way back then. the construction is quality

I bought 10mm Mags from STM and I haven't noticed a difference at all in how it runs. I swapped out wires, plugs and air filter at the same time (nice little kick in the pants) and it felt smoother but that's from the plugs and filter.

Also, you'll want to swap in new wires every so often because when they get old, they will actually start to arc against each other and the VC and cause phantom knock. This is for some of the cheaper sets. These 10mm ones should last me a LONG time as long as there isn't too much moisture down in the wells.

I had a set of 3 year old 8.5mm Magnacores that I replaced with Brand new NGK wires. After two months my ignition started breaking up and as I pulled one of the NGK wires to check it the end came off so I put the old Magnacores back on. THe car ran great for another 2 years on the Magnacore wires.

I personally wouldn't run anything else on my car.

well i dont need that thick of a wire i think 8.5 is good enough 10mm would be ###### good for serious mods.

so you guys think the magnecor ignition wires would be better then the ngk stock ones? also whats better magnecor or msd? do i still have to replace the magnecor wires every 30k miles?

Just get the ngk's I had a set of magecores on my car for a few weeks and after a few high boost 4th gear pulls the car would misfire. Put back on my 3k old ngk's and never had the problem again.

I already said it but if you're worried, just go with the NGks. You can't go wrong with the 7mm NGKs unless your car has some major modifications. The factory ignition system works great.

I have been using 8.5mm Magnacores for the past 5 years without any problems but when I do replace them I'll be going back to NGKs. Bigger isn't always better.

Its your money, your car, your choice. It seems like you just want bigger wires, if so then get them but you won't notice any differences in performance.

Hope this helps.

Not sure what "major" ignition mods are out there but this pretty much hit the nail on the head. I personally know people who run 10's at 135+ with the stock replacement 7mm NGK wire set and some BPR8ES'.

I spent some money on a new pair of MSD's and have had them on about 4 DSM's over the past 8 years. I never really run over 25lbs of boost but I've never had an ignition problem in those 8 years that cleaning and re gaping the plugs didn't solve.
I have a used spare set of MSD's that I got for $20 as a backup.

I've had various sets of Magnacore wires on various cars. Don't really provide any "gain". My VR-4 came with a set and I actually swapped them out for some fresh NGK's. I thinks it's wasteful and will just stick to NGK"s from now on.

Yes that link is what you need. Me64 is the part number for the 1g (90-94) and Me77 is for the 2g (95-99). Since you have a '92, you need Me64. When you select 1g or 2g on the STM website they will send you the proper set.

With STM you get a free set of plugs. I would go with either BPR6ES or BPR7ES. '6' is the factory, '7' is one step colder. That discussion is for a whole different thread but personally, from looking at the mods in your profile, I would get the '7'.

Hope this helps!

The thickness of the wires really have nothing to do with their quality.
Magnacore used to have a bad problem with their boots arcing, I don't know if they ever fixed the problem. Since they don't perform any better than the NGK wires I never saw any reason to spend more money on them.

We used to run them on my car and a few friends' cars, all experienced problems with misfires after a few thousand miles. Switched back to NGK wires, been fine ever since. We recently made over 700whp on one friend's car with a pretty well used set of NGKs and original 134k stock coils.

NGK's, or ACCEL are even better in my opinion... Nothing special, Just a wire...
Dog Box's older talon/the red one/ made around 850-900 WHP/, with an stock ignition and ACCEL's wires....

I had a set of nearly new magnecores a few years ago. The coil packs kept melting on me, turns out it was the magnecore wires arcing, switched to NGK and never fried a coil pack ever again.
