Machine shop is taking forer?

So I am currently rebuilding a block for a gst,and I took everything to the machine shop 2 months ago. He keeps telling me he will be done in a week,and I come back week after week,and he is not done with another excuse. Im curious to how long it actually takes to bore .020 over,and balance the roating assembly. Im tired of waiting,if it was going to take this long he could have just told me instead of telling me it would be done in a week. Does it really take this long?

He could have easily had it done in a week. Sounds like he's backed up with work and is having to lay off excuses, which causes him to work on the engines less, which in turn causes him to get more backed up.

no..... just go get your stuff and find another machine shop....
when a shop takes this long, it means they just really dont care and/or want to deal with you or your engine.

even a busy shop would have your machine work done in 2 weeks.

I have done that with customers with odd ball engines that I would have to reserch alot on.
the shop your at now dosnt feel comfortable doing the work on your engine.
If it was more involved than a simple clean, bore/hone the block. and balance a set of pistons, crank, rods it would be more understanable.

if the head was being pnp and alot more "trick" work being done then one could understand the time.

but it sounds like they are jumping other work in front of yours , beacuse its the "quick and easy" that they are used too.

The whole 2 weeks thing isn't necessarily true. There is a local machine shop that has a wait time of over a month, and has hundreds, if not thousands of engine components laying around his shop.

Some shops are busy, others are lazy. Two months is excessive no matter what though, unless you have specifically specified that you don't need it for that long and will not be ready until then.

I would say pick it up and go to another machine shop.

Yeah thats true! The last time I went in there he told me that he would for sure have me ready. Then he wasnt done and he asked for my BS bearings...Im going WTF? Thats just one more thing he has to do that will take longer. I just dont want to be disrespectful to him because its the only machine shop in town. He said that he has started so its hard to tell him I want it back. Everytime I go in there he asks me if im getting anxious...well of course im getting anxious! Ive been ready to assemble for months. He also says he started,but doesnt tell me what he has done. Once he told me that he had gauged my crankshaft and that its ok, that took up the first month.

I just called my machine shop 30 mins ago that has my block as well. It has been 2 weeks for mine, and im going .10 or .20 over and crank turned. I however knew the "block" guy, was out of town till next monday. I sure hope mine dont take 2 months for mine

yeah a couple months is way to long (unless they said thats how long it would be when you dropped it off) don't put up with the next week bs.
