this is strange I have a fully functional Alternator (took it to advance, had it tested twice) and the test showed that it passed. well my problem is when It's in the car at idle, I have 14.3 volts and as i start driving the vaults drop down to 11.4 - 11.3, than at idle it stays at 11.4. sometimes if I rev it would jump up to 12-13.2 briefly than back down. I bought a new belt. any advice? one thing also is the Alternator bracket I moved it a bit in the process could the way It's positioned effect the voltage? maybe to high or to low? thanks.

You're alternator is junk! The bench test at AutoZone/Advance ain't worth a shit. They always test good and then won't perform on the car.:notgood:

You should be seeing 13.5-14.8 volts on a good charging system. Anything less than 13.5 volts won't work. Put a new alternator in it and call it a day.;)

I had it bunched tested at pep boys and it passed. then I had my whole charging system tested with the car running and it said the Alternator isn't charging which I already know. but is there anything else I should check before jumping to conclusions?

Check all the ground terminals to make sure they are clean and making a good connection..

I replaced all the terminals on the battery.when adjusting alt belt, should the tensioner be turned to the last thread? I have it like a 1/4 from the bottom, belt is pretty tight. also, the pivot screw before was sitting on the belt while driving ( got loose some how) used to scream pretty bad for a while. but while the bolt was pressing down on the belt it worked fine with voltages, also some water rain mist got onto the alt. I know everything is pointing at the alt but it still passed, kinda don't wanna waste cash on a alt if It's good.

here is the test results

I have oem belts and I'm almost bottomed out on adjustment I hate it bro. I see steady 13.5ish volts while cruzing and 13.9 at startup. Sounds like the voltage regulator is going out on alternator bro. Going down under 12v doesn't seem safe at all since most things running off alt expect that much. I would try swapping alts or I you can voltage regs.

alright, I think I'm going to have no choice as there isn't much else I can do. I really hope It's the Alternator, because one thing I hate most with cars is wiring. Thanks for all the input. I'll post back if it indeed is the Alternator.
