Hi there everyone,
So I've been searching around and have done a lot of research and readings on master and slave cylinder and have a set coming tomorrow. However, before my clutch stopped disengaging, there was a loud POP WHILE DRIVING, not while stepping on the clutch*. I've read and people say it could be my pressure plate? I'm basically all stock; 97 gsx 5 speed. There's no leak because my clutch reservoir is still topped with brake fluid, and there's no leak on my clutch pedal. Although I will check my slave to see if theres fluid tomorrow...

Another thing, I can still get into gear when engine is off. But when on i need to pump the clutch 4 times or so before I can get it into gear. Having clutch in or out does not matter, the car will go so I have to hold the break. I'm not driving it now tho so just tested it and this is how it is right now. Please let me know if you can help. I'm really thinking its the pressure plate maybe breaking a tooth or so but unsure. The threads I can find didnt explain the aftermath etc. Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!

We ran into this same problem on an srt4. A spring from the disc came loose and was lodged causing the clutch not to disengage. My advice is to pull the trans.

Thanks for the replies guys. Now I won't even waste my time changing the master/slave now and will do it later when the trans come out etc...Kinda thought it might of been something inside the trans :toobad: Thank you so much!

Glad we could help. Good luck! When doing your clutch check out everything while your there. Fork and pivot ball, clip that holds the throw out bearing to the fork. If it is bad or looks bad replace it. I know for a fact it is way easier to replace it all then to put it back together just to have something else go wrong. My advice do it right and do it once. LOL

run your nail thru all of the finger of PP. It shouldnt get caught anywhere. Kind of like a brake rotor. Smooth surface is what you want

my clutch did something realluy similar this summer, i pushed it by accident with the wrong foot avoiding a car with no tail lights while i swerved and of-roaded the field to avoid disaster and it ended up being that my clutch pedal was cracked and has beenfor a while (COMMON but rarely mentioned problem in 2g cars) i'd never heard about it til i posted about it and others chimed in, the pedal cracks where the master rod attaches and you can't see it until you've pulled the pedal cage from the car (clutch assembly is easy on a 2g though) BUT THE HELPER SPRING AND OTHER THINGS WILL NOT LET YOU SEE THE CRACK TO DIAGNOSE WITH IT IN THE CAR) (damn caps lock_)

the only way i found the problem was that i pulled the assembly out to make custom bushings as a last resort to get some clutch movement back into the car before i chose to make the decision to set the SOB on fire or dump it in the lake instead LOL, welded it up and it's been great since, that's how i knew it was bad or partially cracked for years, I ghad the best clutch i had felt since the car was new before putting in the 2600... some said theirs had broken clean in half and fell into the floor, others checked and found that theirs were cracked too after i mentioned how you can't find it until you pull the pedal out of the car, and it does make a snap noise when it cracks, also the common "CREAKING" clutch in the 2g tends to be this problem showing it's ungly head, which i'd been having on and off for years and has been gone since, also my friends 2g with only an ACT 2100 with crap shifting turned out to haqve this SAME isssue exactly, it lets thepedal bend and hit the floor before pushing the clutch all the way that it should move it, so you think there's an issue in the main hydro or clutch assembly some where and try and fix an adjust around it forever until you stumble upon the cracked pedal by accident one day

Why don't you post some pictures up of your clutch and pp, that might help find something that you dont see.
