Looks like oil in my coolant..please verify.. (headgasket)

So I think my coolant may be disappearing and upon looking in my coolant overflow bottle it looks like some oil is in there. So is that oil? Is my headgasket toast?

My car doesn't really feel any of the symptoms of a blown headgasket though.

i have the same prob. my compression is good, even on all cyl's ~150psi. if this is the case for you too then check the oil filter cooler. it is directly behind the filter. it may be loose or crushed.

I just drained a quart of coolant out of my oil pan, too. I had oil in the coolant as well. Thing is, I went from a 16G pushing 20+ PSI to a GT-12 @ only 10-15PSI. I can't understand why I would blow a HG.

I checked my filter housing (91+ coolant_cooled) and it was loose, so I removed the filter and tightened the nut very gently, but a loose cooler can't be the cause can it? It's a sealed unit, and I've never crushed it by overtightening the filter, I ALWAYS hand tighten...hmm. Any thoughts?

is there a way to tell if your oil cooler is crushed?

The only way I know of, is to get a coolant system pressurizer and pressurize the system. I think I'm going to try this with the oil filter OFF, so I can see if coolant starts dripping out of the filter housing. Also, if coolant is getting in the cylinders, it will smoke badly when you start it up, indicating a HG. I'll try both of these, as soon as the car gets running again.... ####in sucks, I install a TRE tranny and a set of 1000cc injectors, only to not be able to play with it..damn DSMs


Other than that, I think a compression test is in order.
