Hello, I read all of the faq's and I have learned a lot about DSM cars. I know they are all similar, and since they are much more widespread in this area I was going to look into purchasing one. I wanted to know if there is anything specific i should know and what i should look for when checking out cars, like any warning signs, or things i should be asking the seller. I am paraplegic, so unfortunately i need to get an auto :toobad: but i read that there are shift kits available. I presume that the mitsubishi parts bolt right on to one of the others, but if i wanted the eclipse taillights would I have to replace the whole rear portion or would just the taillights work?

I believe the current one i am looking at is a 1g Talon but im not 100% sure yet, dont know if its turbo or not but im going to check it out hopefully tomorrow and i can post some pics for you guys and let you know how much the guy wants for it if he is home.

I am coming from the mindset of buying a 96 civic hatch, i still love those cars but they just dont have many around here and it would cost me more to track one down. One of my freinds has a 2g eclipse with LOTS of work done and still being done, so he suggested i check out some DSM cars.

check for the normal things...t belt...miles ask the q's about oil and filter were ran...as for the auto nothing wrong w/ one there still quick :talon:

Ill be sure to ask about the belt, and maintenence. according to blue book if it is a ~93 front drive tsi then it will be about $1800, does that sound about right? Should I expect to pay a different price? Also, if it is NOT a turbo, should i buy it? Would it be incredibly hard to find the turbo parts in a junkyard, or what would i do if buying it was the best option?

if your looking for something to have fun with... its better to start out with a turbo.. n/t is just not to fun :)

but all i can say... is if you want it to be fast... open the wallet and start dishing out some $$...

ive got about 20k in my car.

i went down and looked at it and it is actually a Plymouth. It has aftermarket rims, i didnt see any turbo badges but i am going to look at it again later today and talk to the owner. It looked to be in pretty decent shape, i think i saw a rust bubble on the trunk lid but i think it could be repaired judging from the repairs my dad has had done with his van. I read on KBB that there was a model with a 1.8l engine, and then the rs and rs turbo with the 2.0. What engine is the 1.8, and is it worth getting if it has that? I read the blue book for a RS-T is about 1200 or so, should i just count it out if it is non turbo/1.8l?

well tomorrow my freind is coming over to go check it out with me, and i also got some other great tidbits of info. If a swap is possible, and the car is n/a, i can get a 2g eclipse motor from my freind that is good except for the head, and a turbo. He wrecked his car, and bought a new one and the head was bad on it. He ran into the extra turbo because his car was running poorly, but it turns out he had a leak in his charge piping and he upgraded to a 13g(?) anyways so he has an extra. If the car is a turbo i want to try to swap it since the autos have smaller turbos. Ill probably buy it if it is easy to put the turbo in/just swap the whole engine, my freind has the parts and tools so it wouldnt be that big of a hassle.

Another question, would a 1g automatic transmission fit on a 2g engine?
