Looking to get a DSM

hey guys im new here as you can probally notice, but im looking to get a Dsm before winter. i was reading threw all the stickies in the fourms and i was wondering a few things. when buying one for example an eagle talon TSi is their a way to find out if it is all wheel drive? or a specific vin number that would tell you so im not getting ripped off? This also for the eclipse gsx gst is their a vin number to verify that or RPO codes? because people could just swap some badges around.

also i plan on spending around the 5k mark i know i will not get the greatest DSM out thier but i hope to get a reliable one with a car with a price tag is their anywhere special to look for rust? leaks or anything wiggle in the turbo??? im new to the turbo world

ive read that talon is like jc penny the eclipse is liek gucci is that true?

im looking for a sporty quick car good in the snow since my daily commute is about 16 miles and i have a RWD car thats why i am picking a DSM to go with preferable a 95+

i have been looking threw your classifieds and auto trader and ebay tryin to get a price around im going to spend to see what quality the car is in, i have yet to go to car lots which i will do when i have all the money.

anything else im missing?

check craigslist for cars in your area. good deals there.

To tell the difference if its FWD or AWD just look under the car and see if you can see either a drive axel going to the rear or a rear diff.

There is no difference between the reliability of a Talon or an Eclipse. Same car.

umm.. same would be true with any car, reguardless the number of cylinders.

The fifth character of the VIN is the driveline determinant: for 1G, S (as in Slippery, Stumbling, torqueSteer, Satanic, Stupid, Special Olympic Star, Simpleton, Sliding) is for FWD and T (Terrific, Tossable, Tidy, Taut, Twinkle-Toed, Tightrope, Traction) is for AWD.
In 2G, K (Klutzy) is FWD and L (Luxuriant) is AWD.

my first car was a 89 toyota pickup so maybe i have just set my reliability standards too high... i mean what can compare with a toyota/

DSMs are only as reliable as the person that fixes them. If your cheap and cut corners on them, they will break. If your rough and beat the hell out of them they will break (im guilty of this). Plus you have to think of how the previous owners were with them and there general matinance too. AWD in the wrong hands is a bad thing. I love my DSM (not a daily driver anymore tho).

like i said i wont be tryin to get one until the weather gets colder before snow here in philly hopfully november. reliability i was asking cause currently i have a 84 z28 and in the snow... not fun ive never been standed with my car and i know certain cars are prone to certain problems.
