I had two DSM's (93 n/a and 95 TSI) and am looking to possibly get another one within 2006 sometime..definitley a 2G...just have a couple questions first...

How much does a 2G AWD actually weigh? I get so many different answers on this question...anybody have the actual weight?

Were there any differences in 97-99 AWD Eclipses?

Build up a 2G Block or do a 6 bolt swap?

If doing a 6 bolt swap? Is it possible to just swap the short block? if not...an entire swap including wiring necessary?

Thanks guys,
Evan

thanks man...that looks like a decent number...I have heard number up to 3700lbs and I knew that wasnt right and wanted a more realistic numer...that sounds about right...Im also looking into maybe an EVOVIII...Im gonna test drive both again and do some comparo's

WTF Why does it say that the 99 GSX is 3,270 lb and the 97 GSX is 3,100 lb  There are some differences in the 97-99. The 99 has just about everything standard, and also the only year that comes with black interior and white(ish) gauges. They also fixed some of the recalls by 98 and 99. I think the balljoint recall doesn't affect the 99. Also, The crankshaft was changed somewhere in the 98 year, supposedly less likely to get crankwalk.

Let me make one suggestion, if you drive an EVO VIII before the 2g eclipse the eclipse is going to feel like a geo metro will blown struts. I really love my 2g but evo's tend to make everything feel kinda dull, after I drove one my car felt different ROFL

the weight article earlier presented is correct ( nice work)- i would go with a 6bolt swap- only b/c i have done so and it is great- there are 3 ways to do so
-RRE 1st way- http://www.roadraceengineering.com/2g6boltmotorinstall.htm
-RRE 2nd way- - ( i couldnt find it)
-magnus motor sports way- http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/article_1g2g.htm

you can swap just the short block to make install ment easier- though there are larger power gains in the 1G head- larger TB, larger intake man., larger runners in the head itself- much bigger flowwing capacity- but the 2G pistons raise the stock 1G comp. ratio from 7.8 to 8.5 - a much higher ratio- if you do this while the swap is being performed- then you would have a much better engine- machining is neccesary along with other fabricatinos that are very covered in other articles
