Well I have a pretty stock 6-bolt right now but when I get my taxes back in about 2 weeks I want to purchase a new turbo. Now essentially I want to be able to run as much boost as I can with probably nothing more than headstuds and new head gasket as far as block upgrades. I'm hoping for 450+ to the wheels without nitrous(not trying to benchrace, just a number for reference of my goals). I'll have the fuel upgrades and all other supporting mods also. I'd really like to run about 25-28 psi on 93 octane after the tune has been dialed in pretty well. This will be more of a weekend warrior with occasional daily driving in the summer. I'll probably go with injectors somewhere between 750-850s, whichever would work best. Hopefully by summer I can purchase some new HKS 272 cams or maybe even go with 280s. I don't want some massive turbo that won't boost until 5k. I'd prefer a turbo that will be near the top of its efficiency range at my goals. Pretty much I want to go as small as I can without having something that will fall off at the top end and do nothing but blow hot air. Also keep in mind I'm far from wealthy so I don't want to drop another $4000 into my car for these goals. I'm very open to suggestions or constuctive criticism so please leave your opinions. Thanks!
Dustin

your goals sound nice and all but two things.
One , that amount of boost would be hard to achieve efficiently on pump gas ( not impossible ) just hard.
and two i realllly dont recommend 450 + whp on stock internals.
Yea they say theres been some 6bolt guys whove made over 500 whp on stock internals but i mean i think that was a fluke.
More like oops, i tripped 500 whp but four pulls later the engine blew.
And ive seen an example of that on a dyno video of a red talon making over 500 and blowing his engine sending the rod into the oil pan on the fourth pull.
I wouldnt go for more than 400 whp on stock internals if you want the engine to last long.
Every engine is different , and suppose you get away with 450whp every day for a while. Thats good
but it leaves you no leaway to mess up, or to have a bad tune or a boost spike and that could be it.

As far as the injectors go as big as possible if you have a means to control them.
The cams, i would say just go with the 272 combo, because 280s would be no different than getting an
oversized turbo , its just going to hurt bottom end more and have it all top end ( same thing a big turbo would do.)
And I suppose that a 20g or a 50 trim would preferably be your ideal choice of turbo.

Haha, that was an excellent video. My heart went WTF :sosad: when I saw the boost gauge pass 30psi LOL

I agree with this. DSM Link can make up for any size injectors you throw at it, so you might as well get some huge ones so you aren't forced to rebuy in the future. In the cam department, get some sort of 272-type grind. ForcedPerformance FP2's, DKS 272's, Comp 101200's, BC 272's, etc. If you shop around the vendors that support this site, you can get excellent prices on the 'non name brand' cams.

My vote would be 50-trim variant or a GT3076. Good luck!

What about an FP3052? It is a ball bearing GT30r so it will spool quicker than a 35r and get you into your range and you can make 500+ later if you build the engine. It is the turbo I am going to be getting here in a few weeks.

60-1, Gt35r.
I like the idea of a 60-1. That was what I was leaning towards. I wasn't sure a 50-trim would be enough and I see only good things from a 60-1. If I were to go to with some type of 50-trim, would it be cheaper than a 60-1? I never really considered a 20g, I haven't seen the greatest results with them... But I'm always willing to accomodate if someone could help back the 20g.

As for the red talon, I have also seen the video... He was probley pushing 35-40 psi though, pretty much trying to blow his motor. I want to push it close to the limits for hopefully one summer or so since I'm possibley looking for a rebuild next winter. I'd rather not blow my motor within the first 1000 miles but I guess if it happens then it happens.
Thanks much for the responses so far!

I remember that video also. I believe that it was a 7 bolt though and not a 6 bolt. Also if I remember right, the motor didn't give up the ghost because of the power, the clutch did. When the clutch went the motor over-revved and and the rod came apart then. Still an awesome video though! I was like OMG when I saw the boost gauge! I believe that the turbo on it was a 35r also.

Anybody have a link to this?

i think they are talking about parish, the dude with the super fast pickup truck. the video should be on 1320video.com

Redline: 7500 = 35R
Redline: 9000 = 42R/MP-70

93 octane will kill you. If you must, then add alky/meth.

So I just bought a turbo off e-bay and I think I got a pretty good deal. Spent less than $500 on it and its brand new. It is not a knock off ebay p.o.s. either. Its a brand new SCM-6052S. Now I believe this has the t3 5-bolt. How do I go about getting a downpipe for this turbo?

The turbo that I linked to on ebay is the turbo I just bought. I'm waiting for the guy to let me know shipping charges and I'll send the money. But I already won the auction. Just mainly lookin for a couple opinions on the purchase. Good or bad deal? What else I need to install this on my 6-bolt. Custom downpipe? And a new manifold too correct?
