I didn't see this mentioned earlier, but maybe I missed it. Just a heads up for anyone who finds a 4g64 6-bolt. Unsure if this applies to the g4cs.
I recently got a 4g64 6-bolt out of a 92 expo, moved everything over from the 63 and put on the 63 head, installed new bearings and reringed the cylinders. Runs good and I have had no problems with it running E85. Recently I was doing some pre-race maintenance and inspected the timing belt- found the inner edge(closest to the block) has been rubbing on something and chaffing away. Further inspection found the belt rubbing on the stud for the engine mount bracket.
Not convinced to just replace the stud with a bolt and call it a day, I decided to check the 63 block to see what the difference was. Lo-and-behold, it was different. The 63 has a stud in the upper right hole whereas the 64 has the stud in the lower left hole- allowing it to rub on the belt. The 64 stud is also longer- unsure if this affects anything in the upper right position. I swapped the shorter 63 stud into the proper upper right hole, installed that bolt into the lower left and flipped the belt to verify there would be no clearance issues. The belt no longer comes close to touching that bolt.
A new timing belt will be installed as soon as it arrives. Hope this helps anyone who acquires a 4g64 6-bolt.

I have a 98 GSX. I bought a 7 bolt 4g64 from a galant and i plan on putting a 7 bolt 1g top end onto it. I have 7 bolt eagle rods and wiseco pistons for a 4g64 w/ 4g63 head. Aside from the gears and timing belt, is there anything else that has to be modded?

Can we use the evo 9 pistons and 1g rods with the 4gcs crank? Im currently debating on using the 2.4 insted of rebuilding my 2.0.

Short answer:

No.



Long answer:

If you put standard rods and pistons on a 100mm crank in a 2.0L block, the pistons will stick out the top of the deck due to the longer crank throw. You need stroker pistons with a shorter compression height to build a 2.3L stroker.

You also can't use Evo pistons in a 2.4L block. The factory bore size of the 2.4L blocks are 86.5mm, the 2.0L blocks have a bore size of 85mm.
 
Funny this came up. I have some questions regarding using the Evo pistons also. I am thinking of building an Evo 4G64 block for my VIII.

An Evo IX piston .060" will be the same diameter as a 4G64 piston, so can a OEM piston be ordered in that size, and will it work? I'm not sure how the height of the piston might differ from the 4G64, but I think it's a possibility.

Also. Has anyone looked into the EvoX pistons? They are 86mm STD, so a .020" piston may work. The wrist pin in a X piston is 23mm, vs 22mm/21mm you see in the DSM/Evo platforms.

If either of these scenarios work, that would be good news for 6-bolt 4G64/G4CS guys on a budget who just want a piston that will accept boost.

For 7-bolt guys I would always be afraid of the rods in a 2.4L, so if I were to build a 2.4L I would go forged.

Hello I’m new to the family I just put a G4CS built block together I’m using a 99 Gst head I didn’t plug any holes just opened up head to make 1g arps in well I be good or do I have reopen block and head any help would be appreciated
