Here is what I have: Palm IIIxe with 3.5 OS, hotsync cable and datalogging cable. I'm using mmcd software.

I had a problem before that I couldnt log because I was using the hotsync cradle, but I bought a hotsync cable instead and its still not working.

A couple questions...

1) Does the car have to be started to check if the logger is working? Or can you just have electrical on and just see if its working that way.

2) I believe I have everything hooked up correctly, any ideas why my logging situation isnt working?

This may be a stupid question, but do you have the values selected?

You must be logged in to view this image or video.

See how the ERPM and INJP values are highlighted in the above pic? If you don't have a parameter selected, then MMCD won't log it.

turn the key to the on position and make sure its unpaused. then c if the little hz symbol on the bottom has a number in front of it. if its showin 0 then u either have the cable hooked up wrong into the obd1 port, the cable isnt lined up right on the palm or the cable is trash. odds r its not trashed and one of the connecters might b wrong. if the lil hz has a number in front of it select the tps and c if u can get a value.

Did you have to do anything to make the cradle/hotsync cable plug into you logger cable?
If they mated right up and you have it connected to the right pins on the DLC your cable might be bad. If they didn't and you had to get a gender changer you likely need to use a null modem adaptor to swap pins 2 and 3.

A null modem adaptor is a device to convert a DTE to a DCE or the other way around :)

It sounds like your logger cable was made for use with a PC. Rather than get into a technical discussion on how RS-232 works I'll get to the meat. The signals in pins 2 and 3 are reversed when comparing a PC to a Palm hotsync cable and to make the logger cable work with a Palm now you have to swap them. That's one of the things a null modem adaptor does.

What's incorrect about what you have done?
You tried the gender changer and it only got you half way there. You'll still need it but you need the null modem adaptor to finish up the conversion and get your logger to work.

Steve
Exactly. I was only using the gender converter (without the null adaptor), and noone said that it was wrong. Its straightened out now. I appreciate your help steve.
