ok so about a month ago i took my car to the track. on my first run of the night i just went into first without a launch to get a feel for things. on the second run i held rpms at about 3000rpm and slipped the clutch for a decent launch. this run went really well in my opinion. i pulled a 13.4 at 108mph with a 2.3 60ft. so plenty of room for improvement.

the run went smoothly without any issues but as i go to make the u-turn to come back to the staging lanes i am now locked out of second gear. no matter what i do i can not get into the second "click" of second gear. with the car on or off i can hold the shifter into that first "click" but i cannot get it any further.

playing with it for a bit i realized that if i held the shifter in the perfect position that i could move forward in second meaning that the gear itself is fine. (don't worry it was just to check the gear i do not try to go into second while driving the car just the fun 1st to 3rd)

ok so here's my question. what could possibly be wrong?

i had a friend tell me that the fork is stuck down and that all i need to do is pop off the case and lift the fork back up and problem solved. but this idea stumps me because i know that the fork controls 2nd and 4th and i have no issues with 4th gear.

any input would be greatly appreciated this is my daily driver and this whole 1st-3rd deal is really starting to bug me.

p.s. this is a stock tranny and mods list is up to date. thanks again!

also here is the link to that second run (my last run of the night) if any of you find it useful in any way.

Can you shift into second manually with the shifter arms at the top of the transmission?
Is there anything blocking your shifter from physically shifting into said gear?

Those are the two things I can think of.

no, i cannot manually shift it into second on the top of the transmission. and to my eyes it doesn't seem like there is anything in the way. it must be something internal but i'm wondering what it could possibly be. if it is bad then i'm going to look into buying a rebuilt tranny or something along those lines, but to be honest i have no clue what it could be. all i have is what this one guy told me and i am praying that this will solve my issue.

Take the shifter cables off of the shift arms and see if you can manually go into second. If not you may have damage to the 1-2 fork, rail, or slider. Also a bad intermediate shaft bearing can cause similar issues.

sounds like a possible fork issue. Had it happen not to long ago, but in my case it wiped out getting into third gear then got locked in 4th and couldn't get it out even though the shifter would shift.

Just to be sure, check the shift cables themselves where they connect to the tranny. Its possible to break the cable which makes it weak and flimsy and does not allow to get into gears. I had that happen just 2 weeks ago and could shift to 4th but not at high rpm's.

give us a call at dogbox. I'd be glad to help you out. But i have a feeling its internal. And we are offering a great deal right now on rebuilding your trans.
